He looked knackered by the end of the second but found an extra gear in the third. You seen by his celebrations afterwards how much it ment to him. Superb stuff!
Elated for DOJ, a warrior. Deserved it. Jobbed in 08, '12 and '15. Plus those years in the wilderness with Michael McDonagh's, and then Sean McComb's, emergence. Back with a bang!
Great to here DOJ has booked his Rio ticket. I hope the boxing team get a few more on the plane by the time Rio comes around. It just makes you wonder out of this great team so far how many at the end of Rio will turn over to the pro ranks. Our Golden generation of fighters will hopefully go on to brilliant things in the pros after Rio. How many of the team will turn? Paddy Barnes if he wins gold he has to turn pro 29 its getting to the stage that you are thinking if he doesnt go pro then stay at ams and be the greatest Irish Am of all time. Same could be said of David Oliver Joyce too with him turning pro at 29 hes been around a long time move on after the Olympics. Michael Conlan If he wins Gold he will be offered so many deals to turn pro he will find it hard to turn them down I think no matter what he turns pro too. The rest Steven Donnelly , Joe Ward and Brendan Irvine I think all those might stay in the ams and go again more so if all miss out on a medal. As for the pros Hyland was just in the ring with a monster. Its not been a great time for some of the Irish fighters in the last few months. Some got beaten by great fighters in Spike and Hyland last night. The thing is I do wonder if they will get back to that level that they got beaten at again.
Delighted Joyce qualified my favourite Irish amateur since the that night him and Frampton had an absoloute war in 09, judges cost me a right few quid today giving Joe Joyce the nod on a split pver Majidov, I thpought Majidov won the 3 rounds handy and even won it 2 round to 1 but somehoe lost on a split, gutted.
Katie, Michaela, O'Reilly. Possibly Dean Walsh or Moylette, or McComb if as suggested he goes to 64 and the IABA allow him the opportunity. Unlikely, though. Heavies/super-heavies in trouble with fewer places available and it's a tough ask for Desmond who's a 69 fighting at 75.
paddy power olympics odds are messed up how are Joe joyce 3/1 and lawrence okolie 5/1 while Joe Ward is 7/1 like Okolie especially, he has one good qualifying tournament but has yet to face the top names like savon, tishchenko, levit etc and he is considered to have more of a chance at winning gold than ward , where literally only one guy in his weight class can beat him
wsb/apb qualifiers next month then the qorld qualifiers in july i still expect o'reilly and one of walsh/moylette to qualify and maybe o'neill
