Looks like even moneybags himself agrees with me about MMA. http://www.irish-boxing.com/conor-mcgregor-retires-from-ufc/ Good riddance to him and his "sport".
Hate the way he brings boxing into it - making reference to the recent tragedy in boxing to gloss over the thuggery of MMA. http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/ufc/tragedy-led-conor-mcgregors-retirement-7791864 He cynically lumps boxing in with MMA under the common umbrella term "combat sports". .....a case of 'sure we're all in this together lads - we are all 'legitimate combat sports' .....er NO Connor we are not. Combat is not a sport, and vice versa. This is exactly the sort of 'cross-contamination' from MMA that will hurt boxing. Boxing will be tarred with the one brush in the media and among the general public, many of whom wont be able to distinguish, or wont be bothered making the effort to distinguish, between so-called "combat-sports". The timing of the Nick Blackwell incident adds to this, coming as it did right before that poor lad from Portugal was beaten to death in Dublin for our amusement - all in the name of 'sport' - by the bould Conors MMA "team mate", Ward.
Collins assessment of what went wrong for Luke keeled sounds about right. Fair and balanced. http://www.irish-boxing.com/collins-explains-keeler-doran-defeat/ If doran hadn't beat Luke previously there would be huge demand for a rematch ...it would be a huge attraction. Thing is though Luke is now 0-2 versus doran, and doran has little to gain from fighting him again, especially having felt Luke's power. Even so it was a total war and maybe a third fight could still happen in the future. I'm sure lots of people would watch them do it a third time. If they ever do fight again and If Luke showed. Doran a bit more respect, kept his composure and didn't go "power mad" ......if ...if....
Quigley making a big step up in his next fight against James De La Rosa on the Canelo-Khan undercard. This is more like it!
thats quiet a step up considering how poor his matching making has been so far. but should have too much skill for de la rosa although he should stand and trade with de la rosa more
Tremendous step up in class for Quigley. I hope it's not too much of a jump but at 10 rounds I think he can do it. Question is how will he tire in the later rounds or will he be able to get an early stoppage?
Hard to tell de la Rosa is a good fighter and recently beat angulo. He is going from full time painters to a guy who has beaten some names and still has a lot about him He can be hurt but im not sure how hard Quigley hits right now, but if he lands clean he will do well. I think he will have a good engine too but sometimes Quigley moves to much and burns energy. Interesting fight and it will really tell us where Quigley is right now
This should have happened 3 years ago....but it's finally a global level fight for Carl. This is what we want.
That's a big one. Read that maybe Jacobs will be on the card too, and he was most recently linked with a Lee fight so there may be 2 Irish guys on the card
