Katie can't expect any favours in Brazil. They have never forgiven us Irish since that nutty priest clobbered their top marathon runner a few years ago. 😜🆖
Whatever he said it wasn't half enough. "Zika" mcilroy is a disgrace. When you think of the muppets rushing to condemn o Reilly for " letting the country down" .....meanwhile pampered 🐩multi millionaire golfer gets a free pass. 😵
Did Barnes say he was 59kg last week? How was this allowed to happen? Terrible mismanagement if true? This olympics is turning into a fiasco. Total meltdown. First KATIE loses twice in the run u....then the so called " drug scandal" ....now our top gold medal favourite eliminated in the first round. What a disaster. Heads should roll for this.
Unless he was talking about something else, I think it was just a bit of silly banter. Barnes took a selfie with McIlroys ex Wozniacki on Twitter with the comment "Think we make a great couple, what do you think? And tagged McIlroy
Never mind Twitter last ffs! Serious mismanagement of our greatest national sporting treasure ...our boxing team...is far more serious. We need answers to some serious questions. 1. How was any member of our Olympic squad allowed to go to the olympics without a full clean testing record? 2. How was the national flag carrier...the alleged gold medal favourite....turn out to be a total dud who was one fifth of his body weight over the light-fly limit one week before his fight? How were these things allowed to happen? Who is responsible? What is being done about it?
Barnes should sign pro papers as soon as possible. Hes 29, and can still get some success. With his amateur experience, he could probably looking at a world title shot by his 10th fight.
Why worry about him. Don't you think he let us down badly in Rio? We were totally mis led about Barnes and by Barnes. Instead of fooling around on Twitter, slagging off multi millionaire golfers, playing to the gallery, being the flag carrier and team captain and gold medal favourite, he should have been dedicating himself to performing for his country. We were conned.
If you don't want to worry about him..dont. I'm going to be following his pro career. Think he can have a big one.
You thought he was favourite for gold in Rio too limerick box. He has served us very well for years, but he really led us up the Suwannee in Rio. Overall of course I admire him a lot. Overall I think he is great, obviously. But we must face reality. Anyway he hasn't a hope as a pro. He is too old. Too feather fisted. There is no money for smaller divisions here. Also what weight will he fight at? Bantamweight? He'd get murdered there, even by domestic level guys like Yafai and butler.
Where did I say he was a favourite for anything? Hes 29, with an incredible amateur background. He could be fighting for a world title in a year to 18 months. Hes been fighting and winning in WSB which is probably a better standard than domestic level. already
No he didn't. He said he was 57kg SEVEN weeks ago which is and has been roughly his walking around weight since he was a teen
Flyweight probably (50.8kilo with day before weigh-ins) was on top in sparring last year in Marbella with Charlie Edwards, and he is challenging for a World title next month. Bantamweight (53.5kg) is a massive exaggeration. Paddy struggled to make 49kg, but did make it in the end, suggesting he just needs a small bit of extra breathing space and with 36 hours of rehydration rather than the 3 hours he had yesterday, he should be absolutely grand Paddy also punches very hard, as most who have sparred him would attest to, lack of snap yesterday was due to being drained rather than a lack of power.
Sparring is sparring. Doesn't mean much.So you want him to go pro? I m not sure that's wise. I seriously doubt he will have success. But he might as well give it a go. Nothing to lose now. I still say weigh mis management was a problem. This is supposed to be elite sports. Paddy ..at an advanced age....had not had to make the weight since he qualified 16 months ago thru wsb. 16 months ago! Even then his team were fined when he failed to make weight. It was very forseeable that he would struggle with the weight in Rio. In elite sport he should have been on a calorie counted strict diet supervised by professional nutritionists and dietitians.
