Its a shame you didnt have sound as well as vision. Then you would have been able to hear jjs boy shots sinking in to Yokas ribs with audible thuds.
It was a close enough fight, not a massacre, but Yoka was 'lucky' to get the decision IMO.

Great observation. The points system didn't reward body shots and this was a gripe for many people. The new system should award all types of pressure/work/clean shots. JJ's body shots sounded very sore indeed!

Close fight but Joyce should have gotten it IMO

Wonder who was the Irish athlete placing "inappropriate bets" in Rio???

It's small time stuff apparently, no big money changed hands. Still let's hope it ain't a boxer.

By the way nikitin got a beemer from the Russian govt for winning a bronze medal....his " win" over conlon!

Really Herc? Well, maybe we will get a chance to find out if you are right. Nikitin will likely go pro along with conlon shortly.

Inappropriate bets WERE boxers. Pennies. Olympic quango taking action over their " breach of ethics"! That shower talking about "ethics" is a bit rich innit? Did you ever hear the like of it?
    Talk about hypocracy.

Any ideas on what will happen with the boxing team. The coaches will they be the same will there be a new faces brought in with fresh ideas.

As for fighters feel Irvine and Joe Ward stay around for the next Olympics not too sure on the rest think all go pro as for Katie its up to her. She can retire and still be proud of what she has done for female boxing.

Also the likes of Paddy Barnes and Mick Conlan is it wrong to think that they will stay in Belfast when they could well be best of moving away to the US to fight out of there if they get the right offers. Wouldnt be shocked if both guys have all the UK based promoters in contact with them. Just feel the better move might be out in the US like Jason Quigley done.

The build up writes itself for that one, I can see that fight getting made when (or if) they both start to emerge at European level, probably 10 or 15 fights deep for both of them.

I feel the coaches will remain the same more or less,Zaur heading things with 2or 3 lads under him,I hope we get a HP manager though,we may see John Conlan giving up the national role and sticking to his ulster high performance role,
Irvine will stay and build into a fine 52k not sure about Ward we could see him (a) turn pro in england without a huge amount of success or (b) lose interest and fizzle out as an amateur
Katie will retire i believe, she is 30 has been at the very top for 12 years,Personal issues have taken more out of her in the last year than any of her campaigns and id like to see her remembered for what she had done in the past,
I have a feeling we might see Barnes turn first with Mc Guigan,He is Framptons best buddy and as been around them a lot,A Frampton fight with Paddy on the undercard would be some night in belfast,
Mick i think will follow Quigley stateside possibly to Goldenboy, that would appear the best fit for him,He will win a world title,

A bit late now. He should've done this 4 years ago. Even then I'm Doubtful he would have been successful as a pro. Now I'm almost certain he won't be. Rio was his last hurrah. Shame he wasn't a bit more "professional" in his approach to Rio. That was his big chance for a mega legacy in Irish boxing...as our most successful male amateur ever. I still can't get over the whole weight management fiasco in Rio. How did they get it so wrong?
