Katie Taylor starts her career this weekend, could this be the start of something big for irish boxing,
Not just because of her undoubted talent and shallow pool in the professional scene but she has Brian Peters back on the scene,
Could we see Honky Dory nights back on the small screen and big arenas of Ireland??

I wish KATIE all the best. I just am not sure if there is a big demand for women's boxing. She will have to piggyback on big Matchroom bills if she is to go anywhere I think.
It would be better for her if she was doing MMA...there would almost certainly be a big"freak show" type audience for that garbage....but I'm not so sure about boxing.
Also she needs to keep winning too and being exciting....

Michael Nevin and Gabriel Dossen both have a least bronze medals. Michael Nevin is class, such a joy to watch.

Even if she keeps winning her ceiling will be decided for her by the self-limiting fact that women's boxing has a TINY audience.

If you mean can she go"all the way" ..yes she probably can. But all the way on womens pro bixing is nothing to get too excited about.....aside from the tiny number of purists who would appreciate it.
If making cash money was her aim she would be better off aiming for a bout of topless mud wrestling with that goon mcgregor or something like that. Appeal to the "mcgregor market" ....average age and IQ of 14. Fill stadiums , make millions.....but I can't see KATIE doing that sorta stuff....

Yeah. Has a bit of a colourful past outside the ring to say the least but inside he's one of the most talented irish fighters ive ever seen. Imo has potential to be our greatest amateur ever.

I think you are mixing him up with another Michael Nevin, who is 22 and a cousin of John Joe and had some legal troubles last year. The Michael Nevin currently at the World Championships is one of the most shy guys you could ever meet.

Speaking of John joe Nevin.....what's he doing these days. How come we don't hear about him any more. Is he dead or alive? He was always in the news, be it sports pages or court reports! But now.....nothing.

You're right. Read an article in the irish mirror that mixed up the two and got me muddled up myself.

Katie won. Impressive performance, you can only beat whats in front of you, but as she said the opposition will only get tougher from here on.
