With proper discipline and diet between fights I can see no reason why a guy Carl's size can't make 126 (or even 122). He must be blowing up in the long layoffs between his fights through lazy habits. Undoubtedly his camps are very professional, but he seems to be trying to do too much too late in terms of weight loss.

Particularly these days with all the science available etc. Someone Carl's size who really is "living the life" all year round ought to make weight. IMO.

Many many boxers ..and other sportsmen like jockeys - all over the world, achieve far more demanding weight targets than Carl. It's pretty simple really. Carl eats too much.

For example Felix Sturm - a huge middleweight - used to have a computer calculate his dietary intake, and was prepared to practically live on curd (cottage cheese) in order to make 160 well into his 30s.

Gutierrez looked to be a bigger man than Frampton and he made 126.

If Carl is eating too much and not living the life of a serious professional athlete all year round, that means he has lost his drive for success, his hunger if you'll forgive the expression.

In that case retirement ...or inevitable defeat....beckons....

Put it this way, if he blew the weight deliberately as a ploy to avoid becoming Gary Russell jr's mandatory this time , what's he going to do next time? He can't very well miss by a pound twice in a row for Gutierrez now can he? Then turn around and make the weight for Selby?!

We need to know is Carl finished at featherweight....because if he is he is effectively finished boxing, whether he realises it or not.

 

looks like carl and the mc guigans may be going their separate ways.
i believe we have seen the best of carl and i think the mc guigans agree so they are ready to cut their cash cow loose before they lose money on him.
