What "opportunities" do you mean? But for Gutierrez freak accident he could today be in pole position for selby AND Gary Russell jr. not too shabby I'd say..... (And its Carl who ruled himself out of gr jr by not making the weight.....)
I don't believe Russell was ever in the plans for Frampton. Santa Cruz is mandatory challenger to GRJ by virtue of the WBC diamond belt won in the Frampton fight. I think fighting Gutierrez was intended to consolidate Frampton's WBC ranking so the vacant belt (as Russell has long been rumoured to be moving up) would be on the line alongside the WBA if Frampton and Leo were to have a third fight. The Gutierrez fight was really only an eliminator by definition (as two Top15 boxers were fighting), a win wouldn't have put him any closer to a Russell fight as he was already #1 (but not mandatory) in the rankings, and missing weight did not adversely effect this ranking either
Thanks joe. Strange though...grj might be a better match ....at any rate physically...for Carl. I feel selby is all wrong for Carl..... What I am really getting at is fra seemed to be taking a bit of a cheap shot at his old foe the mcguigans.....again! In all the circumstances other than getting him straight back into a world title I dont see what more ANY management team could have done for Carl.
You must remember too Fra that Carl doesn't seem to be a "hungry" fighter. He's not in the gym every day of the year like Quigg. He has weight management "issues". This is not the McGuigans fault. Just an observation.
That's face it Framptons best days are over.... As you say he's hardly a hungry fiter anymore... And that can and make all the differences here on in
