FWIW here is the email I sent the This content is protected fc.com I've been a dedicated fan for well over 40 years and I've never felt compelled to complain to the BBBoC before. But Marcus McDonnells scoring of the Hyland v ormonde clash in Belfast was just too much. It is simply not possible for an honest, competent official to return a 117-110 score against Ormonde in the manner your BBBoC official, McDonnell, did. Is he an innocent incompetent or criminally corrupt? If the former then it calls into question the competence of those in the Board who deem him fit to Judge fights. If the latter, then even more serious issues arise for those at management level in the Board. In either case he is not fit to officiate fights. I hope action will be taken in this case. (I don't hold out much hope for major change but every long journey begins with a single step)
? From the article - "Irish-Boxing.com scored the bout 115-112 in favour of Ormond, and the press row ringside was in near-unanimous agreement that the he had gotten the better of the bout." Also it wasn't referee Marcus McDonnell who scored it 117-110, it was judge at ringside Valerie Dorsett
I know your follow up article was more forthright, Joe. But: Your initial article about the fight completely failed to mention what a robbery it was. Like you I reacted too quick, went to boxerec and saw Marcus McDonnell as the scorer or 117-110. They are now it seems after correcting this ...but I can't get on there just now to confirm this... Quite frankly the "who" is not important ....it's the "what" that counts here. Do you agree it was blatant robbery? (Fwiw I had it 116-112, something similar to yourself.)
It looks as if "Who" is rather important to you. "It is simply not possible for an honest, competent official to return a 117-110 score against Ormonde in the manner your BBBoC official, McDonnell, did. Is he an innocent incompetent or criminally corrupt? If the former then it calls into question the competence of those in the Board who deem him fit to Judge fights" Not for the ref to score the fight, judges do that and there were 3 of them. Mcdonnell may well think Ornonde should have won, but it makes not a jots difference, its down to the judges. Also not the BBBoC, it was IBF fight so i don't think they will show much interest.
Can you please stop nit picking and account for the score of 117-110 against Ormond? That's the real issue. Do you find that score acceptable? Yes or no.
http://www.irish-boxing.com/paul-hy...s-following-stephen-ormond-clash-online-rant/ Hyland says we need to watch it again, blames Andy lees "biased commentary" etc. Hyland was out of the fight for the entire last 6 rounds. He showed nothing for the entire second half of the fight. He simply wasn't competitive at all. Surely he can see this himself? In the immediate post fight interview he never mentioned a broken jaw. He did blame hylands head for the damage to his badly reddened and swollen right ear....but surely he can't have forgotten all the meaty left hooks ormond was landing in the left side of his head all night. Could these left hooks possibly, .just possibly...have caused the damage? But no it was head butts that damaged his ear. Now it's head butts that broke his jaw. Nothing at all about all those left hooks....not to mention all the other punches ormond landed over and over again throughout the 12 rounds. Bottom line...the fight was a clear win ...a clear win...for Ormond. Hyland wasn't even particularly competitive in the fight. Ok he did alright for some of the early rounds. But this was a 12 round fight. He did almost nothing for the entire second half, he simply doesn't have a case here. He lost. He was beaten. Simple as, end of. It wasn't Andy lees commentary. It wasn't Ormonds head butts. Hyland just plain got out-fought for most of the fight. He doesn't have a case.
Let's hope it happens and ormond does get justice. Thing is though was last weekend Ormonds swan Song? Can he at his age go back to the well another time? The last time he turned in a powerhouse performance ....against Flanagan....he wasn't able to sustain it in his next fights....and he is 34 now.... Plus Hyland ...a good lad himself no doubt....surely will be better next time...
