Sutcliffe and McKenna is a 50/50.. im edging with Sutcliffe... jono should have too much for marco... and luke should edge Cummings.... a note of caution is these fites have a north v south dimension to them.... so the wrong referee might give the local boy the nod even if he doesn't deserve it

Never one to sit on the fence.
Jono i think is the clearest pick, Mc Culloughs limitations have been shown and he has had his best days i believe, Carroll self belief is astounding and will carry him through,

I am split on the next one, Mc Kenna is a better pro than he was amateur but Sutcliffe does have that big bang, I think if mc kenna can stay out of trouble for the first 3 rounds than he will win down the stretch,

The next one im afraid ill have to go for Cummings,Luke has been wobbled and indeed stopped with step ups and Cummings does have a good selection of big shots plus he is the champ coming into it,
What could catch me here though is Luke is having his first fight with Pete Taylor who like him or loathe him is a good coach and may make the essential adjustments to Luke,
So Carroll, Mc Kenna and Cummings for me,
The winner of each bout will have legitimate claim to box for a REAL euro belt the loser im afraid will have to take some time for quite self reflection,

Whaddya mean "like him or loathe him" - Pete is a good guy :)

Yeah - be interesting to see if Luke has progressed, and there can always be problems with your first fight under a new trainer. Its make or break for Luke though - big gamble. I like Cummings too - its a very close call here. Expect fireworks whoever wins.

Sure to be brilliant fight with Cummings and going by my last performances he is favourite on paper but finished work training full time and right shoulder injury is fully healed after surgery back punching very hard.

I’ll be a different animal 21st April training twice a day resting and eating correctly. I’ll be honest I wasn’t doing things properly at all when working full time and see that clear as day now that I’m finished up in work and focused fully on boxing.

Making the adjustments with Pete sparring going brilliant already , did six rounds with Michael Nevin Tuesday in portlaoise after only three weeks full time training and injury free felt better than ever. Sure to be cracking fight and Cummings is a nice guy who I respect but no way I’m coming home to Dublin without that belt

I was wobbled and drop once in my whole career against Doran first time amateur or pro or even sparring never down was caught in back of head and never recovered. Never once dropped before with body or head shot. Whereas Cummings tasted canvas several times

No harm to point that out, Luke. Also the reason Doran caught you with that freak shot in the first place was precisely because you were wading in with impunity....and why were you doing that? Because you had never been hurt before that night (and as a result of that you put too much faith in having an invincible chin) and for that reason you thought you couldnt be ko'd!
Youre wiser now so that wont happen again.
Think about it: If youda been a bit chinny youda beaten Doran!

That's great news Luke good to see you back at it after injury.

Out of curiosity how good is Michael Nevin looking? Seriously exciting prospect

Quality prospect favourite at middleweight for seniors and fact only three weeks back I was delighted how i preformed Pete’s instructions where spot on and worked well against him.

Did another good 6 rounds with Tony Browne today and felt brillliant. Met Andy Lee there he’s back tipping away if big fight with Jacobs comes he will take it but have a feeling his name was only mentioned to force spikes hand in negotiations for money.

Exactly it was one thing I had complete confidence in and it worked against me but lesson learned and big fight experience in bank won’t happen again

Dossen seems to be the real deal alright.its one thing to win underage medals another to be able to bring it through the ranks he seems to be able to do it with ease.
Donovan and Mike Nevin are others i expect to come through and an outsider could be heavyweight Sheehy.
Saw him in the senior final he was the best on the night for me.

Was doing a bitta googling on Dossen amazingly he had his first international fight just 14 months ago in the World youth championship, but its that under 18 team that surprised me as nearly all have already made the stepup to the older ranks succesfully
49kg Jordan Moore (Glasnevin) current senior champ 22 finalist this week
52kg Conor Quinn (Clonard) ulster elite r/up 22 finalist this week
    56kg Eamer Coughlan (Riverstown)
60kg Patrick Donovan (OLOL) great talent and 22 finalist this week
64kg Gabriel Dossen (Olympic) 22 finalist this week
69kg Brett McGinty (Oakleaf) National elite runner up
75kg Michael Nevin (Portlaoise) huge talent already established elite international
81kg Christopher O’Reilly (Bracken) 22 finalist this week
91+kg Kevin Sheehy (St Francis) current senior champ 22 finalist this week

Is this the basis of our next golden generation at amateur level?
Is Tokyo too close for any to make an impact there?
