    Hey Doug,

You'd be surprised if you saw Sean Mannion in the last few months!!! He's in great nick. He's got a shot at the big time if he can turn Michael Sweeney into any kind of champion. Tommy Egan and himself have a great relationship that means Sean will be exposed on American TV under Banner Promotions. Incentive to stay on the straight and narrow.

He's a fascinating guy, is Sean. So humble, so unassuming. You'de be having a chat and he'd casually drop in how helpful Paul Pender, conqueror of Susar Ray Robinson, was when they trained together, or how himself and Marvin Hagler ran together in the Catskills.

"Christ, Sean, that must have been exciting!

"Ah, sure, you know yourself, they were nice lads."

    "Did McCallum hurt you, Sean?"

"Yerra, no. Ray Leonard's brother Roger hit hard though."

The man is a gentleman. And paved the way for so many others after him. I hit the roof in Limerick at the last Andy Lee show because of his treatment. There was Sean, at the very back, out of the way. He sat in a spare seat, until a few young fellas pushed past with no respect and jostled him out of the way.

He wouldn't say anything, but I did. I gave it the whole "Do you know who you the **** you're pushing, wankers?" But I was ignored. They hadn't a clue. Did the little *******s realise that without Sean Mannion gaining such popularity in Beantown that it would have been extremely difficult for a guy like Steve Collins to get a fair shake? Did they ****.

    good post podge...

last time i seen sean was when he was along with steve collins up here in sligo couple of years ago..i was lucky enough to get a good 10 minute chat with them both...steve was telling me how they used to spar a lot...and when sean wemt to the toilet, steve told me how much he thought of sean and that he was a great man...one of the forgotten greats of irish boxing..
glad to hear he's in good nick...he wasnt in good shape that day.

cormac or paddy or anyone is aware if the setanta bill tomorow night is on setanta 1 or 2? i ask because they seemed to have got the rights to show it after Warren threw his obligatory spanner in the works regarding Jennings but they have moved it to setanta 2 thus making anyone that has setanta on freeview or bt vision unable to view. Whats going on? got a feeling their whole boxing for boxing people was/is a sham

Sean Mannion and Steve Collins should be given VIP ringside seats and honored at these big boxing events. But unfortunately people like Sean are cast aside like an old pair of socks when they finish there careers.:fire

    Cheers ishy:hi:

    Nice one Doug
What a weekend for Irish boxing:hi:
