    How ye lads,

Mike Perez is up against Zack Page - lost 22, but only KOd twice. He's been in with Sprott, Boswell and Francisco Palacios in the last year, so it'll be a good indicator at where Perez is.

Luis Garcia is up against Michael Gbenga, who went the distance with Dean Francis in December 07. 5-4 record, but never stopped. Again, could be a good indicator of how much power Luis has.

Acosta gets an easier run out, against a Bulgarian journeyman named Fikrit Remziev.

Talking to Gary Hyde tonight, he's absolutely buzzing. Mickey Joe and Luis have been sensational in sparring - of course he would say that anyway - but if I thought he has sounded excited before, he is brimming about his three lads now.

He wasn't even too upset about Guillermo Rigondeaux's defection to another promoter - even though he had a visa and pre-contract agreed last year. Win some, lose some, as he said.

McCrory and Hyde have done some job of promoting the show - the media in the Northeast of England has really grabbed the ball and ran with it. Its a shame that the same can't be said over here when we run local shows. Even my own paper in Cork is loathe to let me cover boxing unless I persuade the boss.

It makes me proud to be associated with guys like Cormac Campbell, Mark Doyle and Bobby Lavery of Irish-Boxing, who keep the whole thing going for all our benefit. Without them, I dread to think where we'd be.

I'm not forgetting Paddy Cronan either - the Mickey Joe Perez of the radio world!!! This time next year he'll be challenging Bunce, ha ha.

The name Mickey Joe Perez has really caught on in Glanmire, Cork where the lads have been living.
The locals decided he needed a Cork-sounding name a few months ago, so Mickey Joe it was. It's so implanted now that I think people think its his real name, ha ha.

    Gwann Mickey Joe!

Good stuff podge , im glad theres a real feel good factor down in cork .
Do you think there is a chance of one or all of the cubans being taken from hyde either in the uk or the us? Hopefully he can keep them but there is going to be interest from other parties

    Hey dunne101,

I think it would be naive of all of us not to think they'll end up in the US - not enough for them here in the long run. But it will be on Hyde's terms - the three lads are treated as well as his own son.
He has invested a lot of his own cash in them, and he is moving at a brisk pace, to put it mildly. The Glenn McCrory link was an excellent move, imo, because the exposure gained has been massive.

Buncey will have Glenn on his show on Thursday talking about the trio. No doubt he'll be claiming they are now Geordies, but they're Cork lads as far as me and the folks in Glanmire are concerned.

Incidentally, watch out for Gary Hyde's son Thomas. He is only 11 or 12, but does matchmaking for his dad, scouts boxers, contacts, etc. A boxing nut. He is already as savvy as anyone in the game.
The two boys are joined at the hip, absolutely inseperable - Thomas will be a promoter by the time he is 18 after all he has learned in the last few months, ha ha.
And a smashing young fella to boot - he was good company for Mickey Joe when he moved first - that's where he picked up his few words of English, including the word "langer".

I'll be going to Newcastle at the weekend - I should have a report on Sunday or Monday for Cormac's site. It'll be a bit late 'cos I'm on the lash for my 30th birthday, yaboy!!!

Great to see the Cubans being kept active and in the case of Perez and Garcia with opponents who will offer something aswell.

I'll be extremely impressed if Perez stops Page. Page is tough as hell and comes to fight too. He's much better than most men with a record like his and if Mickey Joe(it's just infectious :D) can do a good job on him then it will be time for a big step up soon.

Gbenga seems to be your typical tough African who will apply pressure but in a crude and limited fashion. It would be damn impressive once again for Garcia to force and stoppage and seeing as Gbenga did manage to win 3 and a share of another round on 2 judges cards and 2 on another in his loss to Francis.
He also won 5 rounds, 3 rounds and 2 with a share of 3 in his last Commonwealth title challenge against Jermain Mackey he certainly isn't a nobody and is a decent test at Commonwealth title level.

Disappointing about Acosta's opponent, hopefully he'll be stepped up after this.

    BigEars,

To be fair to Acosta, his hand is not 100% right just yet so he is still catching up to the others.

Are you in Boro this weekend? Fancy coming to Newcastle for the boxing? It'll be a brilliant night, after the boxing we'll have an afterparty that'll make the Playboy mansion look like a bingo night. That'll ding-dang-do for me!!! Hotel is paid for, and the tickets too.

Because of you and Paddy's writings and interviews, I'm going to try and make a point of travelling to Cork or where ever else to view these prospects for myself.Enjoy your birthday celebrations[ it's all downhill after 30:verysad:lol:]

ask him why "he has abandoned boxing" in mcguigan words...hes helping to promote a sport, which main goal is to replace boxing as the main combat sport
