mad keen to watch that but the bbc ni site hasnt sorted it out yet and not on i player. ditto on sinclair ardy, he had the punch that so many of our fighters seem to lack. always remember the sweet shot he put down daniel santos with. he should give it one big final push before hes too old. how bad was it for him missing that prizefighter, he should have won it and look at what it did for rogie.

whats the likelihood of another professional gym in ireland (dublin)?

im of the opinion that as many of our good fighters should be sparring and training with each other as much as possible. lone fighters such as spike o sullivan/ sweeney etc etc. am i being naiive and does a lot of sparring between these guys going on already?

Just watched bucey on setanta and they had mcrory on and im sure he said something about a man in ulster that had a role to play with getting the cubans over to him. What was this connection? Or did i miss hear?
Anyway there seems to be very little credit going to the start they got in Ireland. I dont think it will be to long before they will be be tynside fulltime.

I Sean Mannion has his own gym in Mayo, but a pro gym in here in Dublin like what Breen has would be ideal for our young developing pro boxers.OSullivan fights next week which is good news.

I dont think the Cubans will be figting much in Ireland in the future either. Podge was saying the geordies have taken to the Cubans a lot more than the Irish have, a lot of publicity in the newspapers, talked about on the Bunce show etc. I wouldnt blame Gary Hyde if he took his team fulltime to Tyneside, but Im hoping they might appear here the odd time.

unfortunately people in ireland dont know what they have regards the cubans. i hate the way the media can be too, if theyr not irish they dont count as real people or something. no-one in the north even knew they existed!

if they get more shows/fights/money/exposure in newcastle then hell, can you blame them or hyde? they were on the pitch before some newcastle match too, so everyone up there probably knows them already.

I think the main difference regarding exposure is that in england you dont have to look too far to find boxing news.
Here you have to look for it . How many people here know that mccloskey is a british champ. Unfortunatley if you dont fight on rte no one knows anything about you.

The only Irish boxers joe public knows here are Bernard Dunne and Ken Egan (possibly Duddy). End of story. You're fooling yourself if you believe the general public here knows or cares about any of our other boxers.
Andy Lee had a bit of hype going but he's disappeared too long and I guarantee you is not on the publics radar. We care about the various different fighters but joe public doesn't and never will. The 'sports mad Irish public' aren't actually sports mad at all. We're a nation of bandwagon jumpers and very few people actually have any great depth of knowledge on any given sports.
There are the likes of us the 'boxing diehards' or whatever you want to call us. But look at it this way, out of all your friends how many of them take an even semi-active interest in boxing? It's just not a big sport here and won't ever be.
As good as it may have been to have the Cubans as 'our boys' it was never going to last and to be honest that's why I never got excited about it. They were always bound to be headed off somewhere else with a bigger boxing culture than here as soon as the opportunity arose. Ireland was a stepping stone for them and its just worked out that its' probably a briefer step than we all imagined. Best of luck to them though

100% accurate. 2 of the lads I work with have even bought tickets for Dunne's fight but 2 years ago they never even heard of him. Same with the football. How many people support Premiership sides, yet wouldn't walk 5 minutes to watch their local team play? Lee has fallen off the radar big time due to his loss and recent inactivity, same as Macklin but when he starts fighting and winning again, you'll see the same plaudits and whatnot from the media.
