I was looking at the odds in work today aswell might warrent a dunne on points win with a cheeky score
AT LEAST European level. He says he wants Branco next for the Euro belt and that's a winnable fight for him (as long as it's not in Italy ). After that who knows? He could have a good chance of winning a world title against someone like Kotelnik.
Simple really. In Dunne's biggest fight he got KO'ed inside a round and a half. This kid has a KO perecentage around 66% in the fights he has won. Lets not forget he's killed a man either so there is some power in those fists. 1 loss in 37 fights. Draws against Siderenko, went 12 with Poonswat. Handed current 'super champ' Caballero one of his two losses. All that and he's only 24. Dunne's boxing skill set is great. If he had a) punch power that would make people think twice about walking straight in or b) a good chin to absorb shots, then he'd be a match for anyone in the division. However, when he gets caught clean he gets buzzed. He doesn't roll over and accept the loss and has a fighters heart but there is nothing you can do if you just can't absorb a clean shot. Voronin had him all over the place. Martinez stopped him. Walstad buzzed him in the 12th. And lets not forget that Faccio very clearly buzzed him in the last fight. Lucky enough Dunne held on well and rode out the storm but he was still wobbled. All that adds up to the Cordoba being the clear favourite
He's that much of an underdog because that's his realistic chance of winning, Cordoba is good, very good......but not great. Cordoba is a very skillfull fighter(not quite as skilled as Dunne), but his chin is much better proven and his power(although probably looks better on paper than it is) is certainly better than Dunne's aswell. Plus he's got a very good engine and quick hands aswell. Dunne has a huge task in front of him, having to outbox a skilled fighter like Cordoba for 12 rounds without being worn down before the end. The good news is that although Cordoba does possess greater power, chin and stamina he is a natural counter puncher and likes the other fighter to dictate how the fight will go. He's not nearly as comfortable coming forward and if Bernard is cagey, sets a low tempo and just tries to pick his spots when he can and move away the rest he may do enough to outbox the Panamanian. If Bernard spends too much time on the inside he'll find himself outslugged pretty easily. Cordoba certainly doesn't lack heart either, he was floored very very heavily against Yogli Herrera and managed to come through and win the rest of the fight and take a clear decision. Bernard skillwise is a fantastic fighter that is let down a little by some of his physical traits, that's why Cordoba is quite a strong favourite. But is it cause Cordoba is good......yes very much so. Great win by McCloskey btw, he's more than ready for the European title chance. I'm not even worried about him fighting Branco in Italy, he'd stop Branco inside the distance for me.
Also just watched McCloskey after getting back from the match. A+ stuff. Easy as you like. Top man, Branco won't be a problem I don't reckon
great performance from mccloskey tonight, hes noticeably sitting down on his shots more although the opposition may have made it easier to. step up no doubt but chin isnt really been tested yet at that level and do you guys not think mccloskey could be in better shape and stronger looking? strength and conditioning coach maybe?
