Thats it, Bob Gibson. Bob moved to Wanganui from Auckland way back some time ago. I still run into Bob from time to time, I'll mention you being on this thread Wayne when I see him next. Thanks for joining the discussion.

Hello Wayne, do you ever plan to fight in Ireland again. With the success of Brian Peters and RTE, big things are beginning to happen here. It's a pity we haven't got a northern promoter to run with the sport up here. We have the fighter's, but lack a big time promoter.
jesus,we have wayne mccullough, the hero, the world beater, the warrior on this thread, this is brilliant,im sure everyones very glad to have such a great boxer posting on this little thread. I'm sorry about the martinez fight,i was wondering what his power would be like coming up against a chin like yours. You've given everyone in irish boxing great memories and it is a pity what happened with that fight but i have no problem looking back on your fights with morales and the prince with great pride at the fighter you were (not to mean you arent any good anymore lol). I remember watching your fight with scott harrison and couldnt feel anything but sadness,i really thought you had what it took to beat the glaswegian, but whatever will be will be?do you have any opinions on harrison and do you think that he will ever have a successful return to the ring. Great to see you giving back to the sport through your coaching wayne,im sure that any fighter who can share your talent, heart and motivation will surely go on to great things. I'd love to see you back in the ring wayne and I am sure you still have alot to offer.
Ardy,i am moving back to ireland in just over a months time and want to continue boxing.do you know of any gyms in belfast that are not divided by religion (i'm going back to be a cop lol).
I wanted to fight Bernard Dunne before he got KO'd. But Brian would have none of it. I asked him several times but he kept saying that me and Bernard were friends. We are but this is business. It would have been a great fight for Ireland. Anyway, I was supposed to fight for Brian in June but that didn't happen. Since then I've had the fiasco in December. So there's not much chance in my fans buying tickets when two of my fights have fallen through within 6 months!! Much as I'd love to fight at home I don't see it happening anytime soon unfortunately. :| So I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and hope that I get back in the ring soon, wherever that may be. I love training fighters. I treated my guys like family. They spent evenings at my home with my wife and daughter and we went out to dinner and to the movies with them. So when they screw you out of money without reason it really hurts. Someday I'll train more guys but I'll be really selective and only work on contracts!! If you read my autobiography you'll see why I got beat by Harrison. Well, one of many reason why I got beat. I've never made an excuse after I lost, because people don't want to hear it. But it's all in my book. That's all I'll say. I'd love to see Harrison come back. He's strong as an ox and with the proper mentality he can get back in the mix.
haha true business man wayne. yep,he's still young enough and no doubt he's got huge natural talent, reminds me of eamon magee a bit. i would love to have seen you and bernard get it on,doubt there would be a KO but a very technical fight that i think you would dominate in the later rounds, bernards stamina looks quite suspect, especially in his fight before sergio against the norwegian. i think thats a fear for brian,he wants to keep the top irish fighters away from eachother until there careers are perhaps at a peak,as you say,its a business and brian wants to make the biggest possible fight so he can make the biggest money. do you think bernard can come back to make much of himself past european level, many on here consider him too small, skinny, not powerful enough and of course a dodgy beard to make it past euro level.im sure that martinez will go on to achieve greater things and there may be an opportunity to really monopolise the euro belt for bernard. do you have any thoughts on the next few big fights coming up,such as the pavlik v taylor,or bhop v calzaghe and more at your end the pacman v marquez fight? how do you rate the rise of the irish middleweight with duddy, macklin and lee and a few very highly ranked amateurs coming through to make big waves on the global scale?do you think they stand a chance in with a puncher of the calibre of pavlik.
I was very disappointed, when both your fights fell through last year. I bought tickets for both, but in the case of the Dublin show I still had a decent time [ only decent because Neil Sinclair got beat that night, real bummer].Wayne, have you ever thought of promoting, as I said before Belfast needs a promter, a new Barney Eastwood.
If your serious about being a cop, you may forget about any boxing club in Belfast :bart, but a couple of clubs that draw kids from both traditions would be The Dockers club and the Holy Family club.:bbb
greengloves I wouldn't be so sure of Martinez going to a higher level , Rendall Munroe is a very decent fighter and I give him a good shot at the upset . Martinez(or his team) obviously felt they needed a weight advantage against Wayne aswell showing they mightn't have as much fate in his talent as it appears from the Dunne bout . He made weight fine for Dunne and I suspect he'll make weight fine for Munroe , so what excuse is there to be 3 3/4 lbs over the 122 lb Super-Bantmweight limit and not try and take off any more and start drinking water instead of trying to make the weight . THe only excuse is he was dry as a bone and couldn't make it but if he does make the weight against Munroe it will merely prove that the McCullough fight was no genuine attempt to make the weight and that they felt they needed an 'advantage' . I loved one particular George Foreman comment in that Morales v McCullough fight: 'If you had a neighbour like McCullough you could leave your doors unlocked' So Wayne if you do want to carry on(and as you said yourself you just seem to love it too much to stop fighting) and it doesn't seem feasible to do so in Ireland at present , where would you look to fight ? Would it be out of your adopted home town of Las Vegas ?
Who do you guys think is going to win the Pavlik-Taylor fight this saturday night? I don't think it is a foregone conclusion to assume Pavlik will absolutely win. Taylor had him on very unsteady legs in round two of their first fight. Of course, Pavlik roared back like the champion he is to kayo Taylor and win the title in the seventh. I want Pavlik to win mainly because he's a bigger draw and more exciting. I have a feeling there will be a rubber match if Taylor wins this time. If Pavlik wins again boxing fans are going to treated to a possible fight of the year candidate. A june bloodbath between Pavlik and Ireland's John Duddy. Pavlik-Duddy has the potential to evoke great fights of yesteryear like Pender-Basilio, Basilio-DeMarco, and Zale-Graziano - just to name a few. Just salivate at the prospect of a revered, modest, well-mannered Mid-western kid (Pavlik) who can punch like heck taking on a handsome, charismatic Irishman with a charming speaking brogue and a take no prisoners fighting style. Now THAT is a fight I would be willing to buy on pay per view! So let's all say now for saturady night: Lets go Pavlik! So the fight with Duddy can happen in june for Madison Square Garden.
I want Pavlik to win for the very reasons you state, but also because he fights with pride and passion. I am a big fan of Pavlik and would be an even bigger fan, only as you said Duddy and Lee will be stepping up to the plate to take him on soon. I plan to make the trip from Belfast to watch Duddy/Pavlik, I'm counting down the days with great anticipation.
