Thanks mate It was originally going to be a quick 5 minute interview but with emotions running high it ran for 20 minutes! If shannon briggs hadnt have been busy it wouldnt gave gone out live to the american listeners. Harry was an absolute gent
couldnt have said it better ^^...i loved everything about the whole show saturday... paddy...i enjoyed your last onthegrind radio show...and like ninebar says, mention that to brian peters from us....a real magical time for irish boxing
Man i cant track down world champions not a bother. I can find prospects in the most abstract gyms in the world! but ask me to get an interview with a man less than an hour up the road and its impossible!
Hes from dunsaughlain (spelling?) ? does he own that sibin pub with the thatched roof. Im sure his schedule is quite busy right now. Btw peters has strongly hinted that dunnes first defense may be a unification bout in vegas. I would prefer he stay at home for the time being. Paddy can i have the link to the show with hawkins in it please? Is it before or after the fight?
the interview was done on sunday evening in you go and click on boxing radio at the top of this page the interview will play its about an hour in. carl froch is on the show and so is shannon briggs if your having problems pm me and i'll send you the link in a while
great show lads listening to it now, you were definatley a tired man paddy , hawkins was feeling the efeects of a long night . Shannon briggs "i got fire in my ****ing ass" hilarious.
Unification fight in Vegas? Not too sure about that I'd be gutted to miss Bernard fighting because I won't be able to afford to go after buying the new house but I wouldn't begrudge him the bright lights and big money. However, the problem is the opponents. Caballero or Juanma. I wouldn't be in a rush to put Bernard in with either of those lads. Caballero will be a mandatory everntually so no rush there. I'd like to see someone actually go a few rounds with Juanma before taking a fight with him. The other champion is the Japanese kid and there would be little or no interest in a Dunne -v- Noshioka fight in Vegas. I know Peters and Dunne have waited 8 years or so to get here but rushing stuff could spoil it. After that war I think he deserves a reasonably handy first defence. Just to get used to running the same training camp again and to get used to world champion status etc... I'd hate to see him rush into fighting Caballero or Juanma and lose his title in 1 fight. It was a magic performance at the weekend but I do believe he needs a tune up fight or two before diving into one of those fights. Caballero has lots of title fight experience. And while some people don't rate him lets not forget that he crushed Molitor in Canada. His last 9 fights (I looked it up) have been for world titles. Juanma just looks like a beast. I guess the Penelosa fight will tell us something anyway. Penalosa is a wily old customer and has never been stopped. If Juanma walks through him then I think the Puerto Rican definitely goes on the 'avoid' list for the time being. Hes been fighting lads with winning records for the last 10-12 or so fights and hes knocked them all out. I think Bernard deserves a good rest first and foremost. I'll start bothering people for inside info a bit further down the line
man Briggs is a legend i spend most of my time on the phone laughing when hes on so i have to mute myself! I loved the way the americans jumped on the fact Froch admitted he wasnt a boxing fan!
How would you guys feel about a matchup of Dunne vs Darychain? I think I misspelled his name. Vic Darychain is the Armeinian bantanweight champ based in Austrailia. He just beat Jorge Arce in a comprehensive way. This fight would have major fireworks.
Great and very good Irish-american and irish fighters: heavyweight - John L Sullivan, Jake Kilrain, James J Corbett, Sailor Tom Sharkey, Jack Dempsey (Scotch-irish, part Cherokee Indian), Gene Tunney, James J Braddock, Jerry Quarry, Gerry Cooney, Martin Rogan light heavyweight - Philadelphia Jack O'brien, Jack Delaney, Mike McTigue, Tommy Loughran, Mike Quarry, Billy Conn Middleweight - The greatest MW of all-time: Harry Greb (1/2 German 1/2 Irish), Micky Walker, Joey Archer, Paul Pender - beat Sugar Ray Robinson twice, Steve Collins, Denny Moyer - gave Monzon trouble before fight was prematurely stopped in Rome. Fans showered ring with debris. others - Barry McGuigan, Bernard Dunne, Chris Finnegan, Jimmy McLarnin - the baby faced assassin, the jr. middleweight from the 80's that Teddy Atlas trained. This fellow gave Mike McCallum all he could handle in losing a decsion in 1984. He recently passed on. His name escapes me now.
