were did you hear that... the irish news reported that over 7000 tickets had been sold....and besides warren slagged hayemaker for selling 2 for 1 when he struggled to sell tickets against barrett...i know all the £33 tickets are away and that includes the east block which they were not going to open unless the tickets were selling relatively well..are you going yourself?

Ward and Reilly both claim gold medals

    Wednesday, 6 May 2009 09:07
Irish duo Joe Ward and Michael Reilly both claimed gold medals at the 10-nation Heydar Aliyev Cup in Baku, Azerbaijain.
Irish captain Ward, from the Moate club in West Meath, beat Georgian light middleweight Sekhnias Nikoloz 4-0 and Reilly, of the Drimnagh club in Dublin, edged out Turkish light welter Burhan Aksay 7-6.

The win was all the sweeter for Ward as he was beaten in last year's final by Rakhimov Ulubek of Uzbekistan.

Ward, Reilly and Chris Mullaly, who took home bronze from Baku, have made strong claims for inclusion on the Irish side for the AIBA World Junior Championships in Armenia later this month.

The World Juniors, which starts in Yerevan on 23 May, has attracted a record breaking 283 boxers from 47 nations.

Irish coach Jim Moore, who is expected to announce his squad for Armenia tomorrow, said that they were delighted with the Baku wins.

'This is another first for Irish amateur boxing as the most we have ever won at this level was silver, thanks to Joe Ward's performance last year,' said Moore.

'Joe and Michael have boxed magnificently here this week and they totally deserve their victories. Two gold medals augur well for the World Championships as some of the top underage boxers in Europe were out here.'

Azerbaijan, Russia and Ireland, in that order, finished in the top three positions in the medals table

How did he feel (mantally), about the loss? Depressed or not bad?

I think he felt he let himself and everyone down and he wants to make ammends for it.

this might be a blessing in disguise a year or so down the line....

    Good to hear;)

An angry Duddy, might be a determined and dangerous Duddy:mad:

Hope he forgets about Pavlic, goes to light-middle, and just goes for quality opposition fights. After a re-match with Lyell of course!

A comeback fight in Ireland against the winner of Sinky and Coyle at light middle would be one fine night. In belfast if it is Sinky, in Letterkenny if it was Coyle.Either way i would be there.

Don't mean to fart in anyones sleeping bag but anyone thinking Duddy can win a major title at any weight is sadly deluded. That said, he seems a lovely guy and i'd like to see him get a good payday.

Any news on Paul Mc'Closkey? What's the deal with this Euro shot?

No ive just seen him get schooled by very average boxers all the time in the amateurs, and hes looked like **** as a pro...so guess again, im not going to jump on the bandwagon of a kid who isnt even average at best. he got all of the support at all the amateur shows as ive said, and ive seen him a good few times (one kid I know did actually fight him, but stopped him easily in the second) he is far from a good boxer.
