</p> I know you were talking about Juanma but it was actually Lontchi that I thought would have been a good one for Bernard because he is highly rated and unbeaten and therefore credible however he doesnt seem to posses a real bang.
Not directly related to irish boxing but has anyone seen the cuban prospect lara ? He seems very technically sound picks his shots well and in the fight that i saw i dont think his opponent landed one clean shot. Some are saying he is the best of the recent bunch of cuban defectors , I know paddy thinks garcia is . Have you seen lara paddy?
indeed i have, hes a fantastic boxer the only issue i have seen is his lack of power. Hes fighting next friday (22nd of may) on friday night fights you should check that out!
Hes being brought along nice and quickly unlike some closer to home . I dont think there is any reason why a novice shouldnt fight once a month especially if they really want too. I noticed a lack of power but on hbo they seemed to think he had lots of power ,cant say i saw it but the fight i saw was his last and it was his first to go the distance so maybe he was told to get in some rds, but god were starting to get some good cubans and maybe there will be one more on the way paddy:happy. Ill be keeping a close eye and hopefully they will really make it . Imagine if the regime in cuba changed and pro boxing was allowed
Injury rules O'Neill out of Multi Nations Tuesday, 12 May 2009 11:28 Darren O'Neill has been ruled out of this week's Ustil Nad Labem Multi Nations in the Czech Republic after suffering a recurrence of an injury to his right hand. The Paulstown, Kilkenny middleweight, who won gold at the above Multi Nations last year, has been replaced on the Irish team by 2008 European Championships bronze medallist Eamon O'Kane, from the Immaculata club in Belfast. Irish head coach Billy Walsh has named seven senior Irish champions on an eight-man squad that leaves for the Czech box-off today. Meanwhile, 2008 Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes is part of a five-man Irish squad that departs for a Multi Nations tournament in Pula, Croatia on Wednesday. Both tournaments are part of the IABA's preparations for next month's European Union Championships in Denmark where Ireland will be defending the four gold medals they won in Poland last year. Ken Egan, Darren Sutherland, who has since turned pro, John Joe Nevin and David Oliver Joyce all claimed gold in Poland to add to the three EU golds won by Egan, Sutherland and Roy Sheahan at the EU Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin in June 2007. Barnes, Con Sheehan, Cathal McMonagle and Carl Frampton won four silver medals in both tournaments. Meanwhile, Darren O'Neill, who completes his final exams to become a school teacher this summer, admitted that he is disappointed to miss the Czech Republic box-off through injury - but the 23-year-old will have only one thing on his mind in Denmark next month. He said: 'I am training away as normal, but the old hook and the jab are gone for now because every time I land a punch it hurts so I just have to give it a rest. 'I'm disappointed to miss the trip to the Czech Republic because I won gold there last year. But I am quietly confident that the injury will heal up before the European Union Championships.' He added: 'The European Union Championships are the first big tournament of the year and if I am fit I will have just one target out in Denmark, gold.'
