Lol , a bit of a grudge there. As podge said garcia stopped when things were getting tough im sure darren would like to finish that sparring session but get paid for it.
I didnt see the end of the fight, I was called out. Does anyone else notice that the olympians and some other prospects fights are being stopped much easier than high profile fights?
What is the ref told about stoppages ? Is it to stop the fight when a guy isnt defending himself or when he thinks the guy has no chance of winning?
Btw i dont want to see anyone unesseceraly hurt but a bit of consistancy would be nice
Also i would like darren to be moved along quicker

 

Thought Sutherland looked the part tonight. Hope he fights in Dublin next:yep

both pretty much the same story. Daz was excercising restraint because he was pacing himself for the 6 rounds instead of getting into a tear up.

Daz is a top bloke!

 

It would be a quare blow to team McCloskey if this fight does not take place in Belfast.:verysad

Nice punch and all but just looking at what clips I've seen of Nikoshia I reckon Bernard could solve him. Not quite the fight he's looking for but if he couldn't get something together for the States in his next fight then a WBC title fight in the Point would be worth looking at. Probably not even on Peters radar but the man has been known to think outside of the box. The WBC belt would be a very big barganing tool if he wanted a fight in the states also

Ward crowned World Junior champion

Joe Ward is the new AIBA World light middleweight junior champion following a stunning third round stoppage of home favourite Hayk Khachatryan of Armenia at the Sports Complex in Yerevan, Armenia today.

Ward, who boxes out of the Moate club in Westmeath where he is coached by Seamus Dorrington, was 16-1 up when the fight was stopped with just six seconds remaining to the final bell.

The reigning Irish champion took the first round 2-0, was 4-0 up at the end of the second, and then added 12 points to his total in the third and final round before Khachatryan was taken into protective custody by the referee 1:54 into the frame after taking his second standing count.

Irish coach Jim Moore, who was working Ward's corner along with Tony Davitt today, described the Westmeath's teenager's performance as outstanding.

He said: 'If it was up to me Joe would get the boxer of the tournament award as he's been absolutely brilliant out here all week. He was very patient in the first and second rounds today but when he moved up through the gears in the third he just ran away with it, he was outstanding.'

Today's win ensures that the IABA now have three reigning World champions in their ranks; Ward, Women's World lightweight champ Katie Taylor, and World Youth lightweight champion Ray Moylette.

Today's triumph was Ward's third inside the distance victory in Yerevan this week.

i wouldnt say its just down to the high performance ...these lads comin through seem to have real talent .its a great time to be an irish boxing fan

 

ward at only 16 years old is a unique talent...by the next olympics he will be 19...the way he is progressing he could be there
