This is a forum, and I believe my views to be fair comment on Peters. Peters has always put all his eggs in the one basket and suffered for it in the past. He promoted Michael Carruth and started running shows on a regular basis but always Carruth as the headliner. So when Carruth lost to Stone and then retired, that was Peters back to square one. He repeated the same mistake with Cathal O'Grady, and now it appears he will do the same with Dunne. Because the way I see it now is that if Dunne loses [god forbid] on the 26th and if he decided to retire, the undercard fighters would have no where to go as Peters hasn't bothered trying to raise there profile to the Irish public. That my friend is bad management. Haughian and Murray should be further on in their careers, and when was the last time Peters signed a top amateur, he doesn't. What top promoter/manager does not pursue top class amateurs.Look at Warren, Maloney etc , these promoters are are always looking to the future for the next big thing, that is one thing Peters cannot be accused of.
I'm sorry for the rant but this has been building for a while, as I'm more than annoyed with the direction Irish boxing has been going in the last year.

ardy i have to disagree , peters has been running shows not just with dunne but he has put on shows headlined by lee , duddy , macklin and mccloskey

i dont see what all the fuss is about , murrays carear is going in the right direction and haughians a little slower but he is still very young

peters has single handedly brought irish boxing back on the map and long may it continue

Of course you're entitled to your opinion Ardy but comparing him to Warren and Maloney is wrong in my opinion, they both have deals with Sky Sports, a dedicated sports channel which puts boxing on weekly, Peters has a deal with RTE who are only interested in the big shows, there quite a difference there. Peters also co-promotes shows with Hennessey dosen't he? It wasn't so long ago that Peters had 3 boxers fighting on 3 separate cards in 1 weekend so it's not like he's sitting on his ass waiting for Dunne's next fight! If Dunne were to retire, Peters has McCloskey and Murray as headliners for future shows. Sure he could be doing more but it annoys me when I hear all this criticism for Peters when there are other promoters in this country who haven't done half as much for Irish boxing as he has yet get praised to high heaven everytime they put on mediocre small shows with mismatched fights. Sorry for my rant but Peters can't be held responsible for all that's wrong with Irish boxing.

In the last year he has only promoted Dunne as the headliner[with the exception of Haughian in Lurgan]. No one is disputing what Peters has achieved, but its all short sighted and revolves around one boxer.

No he can't be held responsible for all Irish boxing, but he can be held responsible for his arrangement with the stadium, and the stalling of some of our best prospects careers due to the fact that he would rather make a reality show than promote real boxing.I have been silent until now but that was the straw that broke the camels back.

The arrangement with the stadium was a business decison, Peters can't be worrying about other promoters, It's shrewd moves like that which make him a successful promoter whether it's fair to the others or not.
As for our best prospects, McCloskey and Murray are our best prospects and they get a good run out with Peters, you're right about Haughian, he seems to have gotten the short straw lately but promoters have to pick there most talented/marketable boxers and concentrate on them, all promoters do this not just Peters. I'll wait to see what he has in store for us in the next year but as things stand I can't see much wrong in what he's doing.

Not sure what the Asis or Austria fights can tell us that we dont already know - i.e. Poonsawat has a left hook that would drop a horse but I would be interested to see the Domingo fight even if that was also one sided.</p>
I assume you will be uploading onto YouTube later today! ;)

Although I disagree with you, I will be the first to sing Peters praises if he turns it around[for the other fighters in his "stable"] in the next year.

Well here's hoping he does just that Ardy, I think what we can agree on is that we all want to see all the Irish boys doing well. If peters was to waste the careers of Haughian or any of the others, i would change my mind about him but I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt for now :good

But in all honestly, How bad of a business move would it be to let other promoters use the stadium for their shows.....Peters has not used the venue in about 12-18 months.....
The stadium was soley built for boxing amatuer and professional and with peters having it under lock and key is only bad business for the irish boxers let alone other promoters...
All amatuer boxers fight there in the seniors and so on with the hope of one day they can fight there as a pro but in order to do that they have to fight under the Brian Peters banner...
The way peters conducts business in going behind other peoples backs and brown envelopes.
It was a brown envelope that put the Stadium under lock and key...
It was a brown envelope to the IABA to allow amatuers on his last show as Katie Taylor agreed on fighting on the Hyland card but all of a sudden the IABA said she would be away in training camp, But there was no such thing as Katie Presented Pajo with his title after he won...
Its all Boxing Politics, and the only People losing out are the up coming prospects and the boxing fans
    P.S Sorry for the rant.....

Peters has no promotional contract with Duddy what so ever they were done in conjunction with Irish Ropes i wouldnt call that an investment seeing as it was only 3 fights

Lee was a former Irish Olympian and earmarked as a "sure thing" for a world title

then you look at Andy Murray he has had one run out since march

or haughian who has had one fight since Feb

these lads are at the stage where they NEED regular fights

bare in mind their last fights in the York Hall were gimmie fights

Peters knows himself that Dunne will only have a few more fights he should know that he has to build these lads up

    Duddy ready to return
24 August 2009 - By Cormac Campbell John Duddy, who has been strongly linked with a major all-Irish fight with Andy Lee in November, will return to the ring on October 10.
Derryman Duddy will take part in his first contest since loosing a split decision to the unheralded Billy Lyell at Madison Square Garden in April.
No opponent has yet been named for the contest.
