Con Sheehan fought pretty well against the World number 1 I thought, shame about that broken computer they use to score the fights.

It finished 11-0 btw, Sheehan didn't win but he was very unlucky not to score. He was 3-0 down after the first despite landing the cleanest punch that round( a straight right) and generally the Cuban was given scores for punches that Sheehan wasn't getting scored for.

If clean, very hard and very clear to see body punches landed from the outside(the only type of body punch occasionally scored in the ams) were counted as scores then Sheehan actually would of clearly won but we all know the AIBA's stance on body punching.

Like Sutcliffe and Barnes I reckon Sheehan should turn pro, this amateur system doesn't suit the majority of our fighters. He has the potential to be a very good heavyweight.

Edit: just seen a Scottish Heavy score a body punch that had nowhere near 10-12 the power or clean contact that Sheehan's had

I thought Con was well beaten, a little out-classed to be honest, even but he has undoubted potential.

I've stated before Peters needs to invest in the future. He should now be looking to dangle the proverbial carrot under the nose of the likes of Barnes, Sutcliffe, Sheehan and David Oliver Joyce[ and that's for starters]. In the last eighteen months we have had a lot of Irish boxers turning over, but the most significant of these boxers Sutherland and Frampton have based themselves in Britain. This is a trend that needs to stop.

I'm pretty certain if Peters was to put his hand in his pocket, he would make sure that any new signings would get regular fights, particularly if he can get RTE behind him. And no-one is saying they couldn't fight in America or Britain at times, but essentially these "new signings" must base themselves in Ireland.

Barnes will turn pro next week after he gets a ban or a fine from the iaba or aiba.Paddy is jjst abit mental and he wont like being disciplined and dont forget his club coach Gerry Storey is avery good pro trainer,Sutcliffe will turn next year after he wins his second senior title but something tells me he will wait till then and Dolphil will throw a lot of money into him.Connie is not suited for pro boxing just yet and i think he is our best hope of a medal in London, the guy is only 20 a baby for a heavyweight and look at all he has achieved.Wait till he fills out in the next 2 years he has the skills he has the brains and he defeinetly has the balls.

Under the current amateur system which completely ignores body shots he was indeed well beaten. But a score of 9-3 or 10-3 would of been fair, Con landed a great straight right in the first and in the 2nd landed a really strong flush jab(stronger that your average straight) but as someone else pointed out jabs are rarely scored no matter how strong they are in the amateur game. It wouldn't of been an injustice to score at least one of those body shots either, even with the way the amateur system is I'm surprised he got nothing for that as he was really landing frequently and very hard and clear to the body.

Thought the Cuban got one or two handy points aswell, slaps that landed on the side of the head. He did also have a few points that probably should have been scored that weren't as per usual in the amateurs but I still thought 11-0 was an unfair score and didn't fully represent what happened.

Anyway, maybe I'm just pissed off after the hurling :-(

I have not seen a jab scored in the World's-not one!
Barnes forced a count with a great shot and didn't score-indeed I think a point went again st him.
For me though DO Joyce had the most cause for complaint.

I was on earlier saying you should have seen Eric Donovan's fight - that was the worst of all. I thought it was a fix, like they're trying to develop boxing in India or something. Poor Donovan, he hasn't had the easiest of careers. Hope he keeps going though, he boxed rings around that guy.
