Phew no Olusegun - from what I seen of Rasilla he is pretty poor to be honest. Murray handled him easily in a snoozefest!

Guess who own the only footage on the net of Rasilla??

"how far do you think these guys can go"

Probably not too far, Although Farrell (the heavyweight) and Murphy(middleweight) Are just starting out and in their early 20's I think.
Rooney has been around awhile. These vids are old though, since then Farrell has a tko over 2and2 fighter and is fighting again on the 20th. Murphy's last fight was a draw, with a kid with a losing record but the fight was apparently, a real bigtime slugfest, boxing digest writer was hoping for a re-match.

spoke to Murray briefly on facebuuk with regards Rasillas upcoming fight with McCloskey and his own return.

He reckons it will be any easy one for McCloskey and that he should have stopped Rasilla but he wasnt at his best that night.

He said Rasilla as awkward to hit cleany and with try and frustrate McCloskey - which doesnt bode well for the action in the first few rounds considering Pauls counter punching tactics.

As for Murrays collarbone injury he said it was freak accident during sparring and he went to throw a punch and just heard a snap then pain came. He was trying to be ready for the Lee undercard but is getting back to his best and should be right for Christmas.

Reading this article on Tyson brings back fantastic memories of a time when it meant something to be the heavyweight champion of the world. Times have changed but there's always hope that the heavyweight division can return to its former glory.
Speaking of heavyweights "big Rogie" must be itching to get his hands on Sexton right now. And with McCloskey challenging for European honors on the same night, the countdown has well and truly started in what could be a magnificent week for Irish boxing.

Going up for the McCloskey fight myself with a load of Derry lads who wouldn't normally be boxing fans - most of them play other sports like GAA or soccer. This is a great opportunity to increase the already sizeable boxing fanbase up north.
Apart from the McCloskey fight I'm looking forward to seeing Martin Lindsay and our fellow poster Carlos. It's just a pity that two big shows are running head to head on the same night within 40 miles of each other.

I'd love to be in Magherafelt next week, but that's life. I will have to be content with Sky+. All reports are indicating that ticket sales have been huge for both events, which can only be healthy for the sport here. In terms of increasing the fanbase, in my work place alone there are around ten blokes who will be attending a boxing show for the first time and some of them are actually bringing their sons with them.If the sport can continue this momentum, then all is looking good for the future.

Thats a tough task for Lindsay if he takes it.

Pity about the McCloskey scrap. I'd like him to up the level of opposition. I'd expect a mid rounds stoppage against Ristilla. He s.
hould be putting the likes of this lad away handy.

    National U-21 boxing titles decided

    Saturday, 31 October 2009 12:07
Belfast's Holy Trinity club were celebrating on the treble on Friday night after Ruairi Dalton, Mark O'Hara and David Walsh claimed a hat-trick of titles at the National U/21 Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin.

Walsh completed the treble after edging out defending middleweight champion Stephen O'Reilly on a count-back.

The Holy Family club in Belfast took home two belts courtesy of wins for Ryan Burnett and Anthony Upton - but Upton's brother Sonny was denied by Patrick Gallagher.
Burnett got proceedings underway with an up-tempo victory over Blaine Dobbins. Burnett used the opening round to more or less find his range, earning a 2-0 lead into the bargain.

The Holy Family man, with Gerry Storey and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Paddy Barnes working his corner, made it 3-0 in the second before adding another eight points to his total in the final two rounds - a right upper cut in the third being the pick of the bunch.

Meanwhile, Ceire Smith claimed Ulster's second title of the evening after stopping Danielle McDowell with a body shot in the opening round.

Ryston's Chris Phelan also impressed, forcing Declan Milligan into a standing count in the first en route to a 15-3 win. The second female contest of the evening went the way of Michelle Chambers at the expense of the brave Donna Corrigan.

Dalton meantime, availed of a public warning against Danny Coughlan in the second to carve out a 4-2 decision and Maria Faney saw off the challenge off Denis Roche to bring a title back to Sligo.

Anthony Upton made it two wins on the trot for the Holy Family following a 7-0 victory over John Meli in an all Belfast derby.

And O'Hara sealed a Holy Trinity brace with a magnificent 10-0 win over Tyrone McKenna in yet another all Belfast showdown. Kelly Harringon also finished first past the post, but Sonny Upton lost his bid to complete a Holy Family hat-trick after he was out-pointed by Gallagher.

Gallagher, who eliminated AIBA World Youth Champion Ray Moylette in the semi finals, levelled the bout at 3-3 going into the fourth and final round before adding another two points to his total in a top class 64Kg encounter.

Patrick J Ward won the Olympic club's first title of the tournament with a commanding 15-1 win over Stephen Carroll, but the Tribesmen were denied the double after Chris Blaney - much to the delight of his large band of supporters - edged out Brian Brosnan on a razor thin count-back.

Defending champion Stephen O'Reilly found himself a point down against Holy Trinity middleweight David Walsh. O'Reilly equalised in the third and both boxers exchanged scores in the fourth.

However, it was Walsh who got the nod on a count-back to complete a remarkable treble for the Holy Trinity.

Meantime, Paddy McDonagh won the light heavyweight belt and Cork's Patrick O'Shea was granted a walkover.

Patrick Corcoran, claiming his third U/21 title in a row, and Sean Turner, brought the curtain down on the tournament with the final two victories of the Championships, Corcoran beating Kiril Afanasev 7-2 and Turner out gunning Aiden O'Neill.
