I think you've got a point that Andy still has a lot to learn, him being a young fighter and all, but you're off when comparing him to Pavlik. Pavlik definitely didn't have the background and fanfare that Lee has had early on in his career, and nowhere near the same training, so he got off to a much slower start.

 

thanks again....i have just watched the fight...he was firing back and shouldnt been stopped....lee seemed to run out of steam in the 6th and by the 7th all the snap had left his punches...but although vera was landing he was also starting to look ragged....poor performance by lee...needs to work on his defence a lot....he does need a rematch with this guy...he needs to prove it was a fluke result

 

Lee won't be ready to face pavlik for at least another 2 years and by that time pavlik will problby be at super-middle. Manny and lee should just be quiet get some more fights under lee's belt and keep him learning.

 

Alright guys here we go. First off the tickets I had only cost $40 and were by far the best seats I ever had. The only issue was that the huge Espn camera occasionally blocked the view, but otherwise unbelievable viewing. It was a good size crowd for a fighters debut, but very different than a Duddy crowd where it is virtually all irish. Although some irish came from Ny and Bston, the fact that Andy is based in Detroit and is a rolling stone who has fought everywhere hurts his popularity (even though its his first tv fight). Another problem was that most of the people around me sucked and wanted Andy to lose which led to later problems. As for the fight I was worried from the get go even though he dropped Vera. Andy was picking his shots and his workrate dropped as the fight went on. He landed some beautiful flush left hands and to Vera's credit he took them very well. The fact that Vera took them so well made his confidence grow and really started get inside Andy's punches. The number of jabs began fall, the power shots were nonexistant, and he was really fight on his back foot. Then we got to the stoppage, which seemed very premature even though Lee was taking a lot of shots. His inexperience showed when he elected not to tie Vera up throughout the fight. As soon as the fight was stopped my buddy got a beer poured on him and a brawl began which tarnished the evening. Although many fans were upset the Kronk camp did not dispute the stoppage. Now I was shitfaced in the casino which meant more drinking with the irish, meeting and chatting with Pryor and the rest of Kronk, losing all my money, singing Molly Malone with a 40 year old milf, and finally passing out in the parking garage. Two final points, Lee's counter punching off the back foot would lead to a horrible night against Pavlik and Manny needs to slow the hype train. Finally, this type of fight paralleled many of the tests Duddy has had. Although Duddy catches **** from fans, he has shown the ability to scrape the bottom of the barrell and dig deep when he is really facing adversity. That is the mentality and character of fighter and Lee seemed to lack that Duddy type quality. I hope he comes back stronger and learns from his mistakes.

 

spot on:good .thats exactly what lee needs to do now,build the confidence quickly and get back in the ring with some low ranked opposition. a rematch with vera shouldnt be ruled out either....lee is far better than this.

1 thing i noticed in the replay when i watched it was lee's unwillingness to go into the trenches with this guy.its one thing that duddy has got,even though he gets alot of stick for it,going toe to toe in an all out war.he just doesnt know when to box and when to brawl,always been the problem with john.
Andy will be back from this though.too young and too talented(he has the skills he just didnt show them last night) not to bounce back

 

This is a great point ml. Duddy caught a lot of **** for his last fight especially, and while I think Lee definitely has the skills to go further than Duddy, he doesn't get enough credit for his heart.

 

ml.. you seemed to have a great night... aside from the lee defeat that is...i have woken up in all sorts of strange places after a bellyful:yep ...i think lee fought the wrong fight last night...im sure hes disgusted with himself this morning.

 

ML - drinking, gambling, brawling and singing with a 40 year old milf (I had to google that one) - sounds like apart from the fight you had a whale of a time - but most un-Irish.

 

That was hugely disappointing last night.Lee was plain terrible - no speed,no combinations,no inside game,poor footwork and coordination but the most alarming weekness for me was his lack of power.He hit Vera flush on the chin with the left numerous times and only managed to hurt him once or twice.Maybe Lee's power is in his right hook but he didn't throw that much at all.
Its not the end of the world but Lee has so much work to do - he did show some heart and a decent chin but he is so far from Pavliks level.
