An article in the mirror today Jonny Stapleton Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym will put the WBA super bantamweight world title that once sat proudly around the waist of Bernard Dunne on the line against a Japanese opponent on January 11. However camp Poonsawat have reconfirmed they are still interested in a rematch with the Dubliner. The Thai powerhouse will receive €150,000 to make his first defense against OPBF Featherweight champion Satoshi Hosono in early 2010 but team Poonsawat claimed they would “welcome” the chance to take on Dunne again. The “Little Tank’s” manager Terry Laosuwanwat revealed there was no contact with Brian Peters but did stress they would love to fight another fight in Ireland. Peters, however is unlikely to put Dunne in against the talented Thai again and it appears the Irish star may move up a weight, a move that has been recently endorsed by the great Freddie Roach. “I can confirm Poonsawat will fight Satoshi Hosono the OPBF Featherweight champion in Japan on January 11. Of course, we are absolutely sure that Poonsawat will emerge victorious from this fight,” Laosuwanwat explained yesterday. “We are still open to a rematch with Bernard Dunne. We would really welcome a good offer from Mr. Peters. The Champion would love to go and fight in Ireland again. It could come down to whether the people of Ireland want to see Poonsawat versus Dunne again. At this time we haven’t heard anything from Dunne’s camp re a rematch and we are focused on our next fight. “After Poonsawat became the WBA Champion we had a lot of offers from around the world. But we decided to go to Japan for the first defence because they gave us the best offer.”
an bit in the mirror yesterday Jonny Stapleton Freddie Roach has backed Bernard Dunne to bounce back from the loss of his WBA super bantamweight World Title claiming “Dunne is not done.” The man regarded as the greatest boxing trainer in world is adamant the Irish people should not be looking for a new boxing superstar just yet and added his support to the campaign to get the Dubliner to move up a weight. However while he states Dunne should not be replaced as Ireland’s number one boxing superstar, Roach does claims he is working with an Irish talent that will become known world wide. Roach, who is regarded as the mastermind behind pound for pound ring king Manny Pacquiao’s success as well as the rejuvenation of Ahmir Khan, is now training and co managing former Crumlin amateur Dean Byrne. He believes ‘Irish Lightening’ Byrne has the talent and desire to cause a major storm in the boxing world. “I believe in my heart of hearts Dunne is not done. He is a quality fighter and a real talent. I do think he should go up in weight. That I believe is a must. In fact I am 100% percent certain he should,” Roach, who worked with Dunne in the famous Wild Card Boxing gym earlier in the former World Champion career, said before discussing Byrne Dunne comparisons. “I think 2010 will be the beginning of the next stage in Dean Byrne’s career. He will eventually get a lot of national and international recognition. Rather then compare him to Dunne I'd say that he will be the next fighter that people compare Dunne too. I have too much respect for Dunne to say he should be replaced by Dean as Ireland’s number one boxer. As for Dean Byrne the fans will make their own comparison. That's natural. I do think they will say he's the best since Dunne and he's the new Irish fighter to get behind Dean is a pure talent, he's exciting to watch, he moves very well, has the combination of speed and power, he listens, works hard, loves to fight, so if he wants it bad enough, then he'll be the champion. And I know he wants it"
it looks like he will stay in the states..for now- hopefully his fights will be shown here though. I know Freddie and Steve Feder want to keep his profile high in Ireland
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHGYHCAd7ZQ[/ame] no fights on you tube- just a little interview and some sparring. I had a link to one of his fights on some pay per view website thing-but i lost it. Id say Paddy has it. He did well when he went to Oz and won a belt in five fights there! And i know Freddie thinks highly of him-thats enough for me!!- he is been inactive over the last while-injured and sorting out contracts.. Seems like a decent bloke-bit of wit about him too that could make him marketable
Is that a **** take or what. He sounds strung out at the start of the video then he does a little fake american accent for a few seconds it must be someone else doing the voiceover
