Was really disappointed in the Rogie outcome. Hate tp see him quit on the stool like that as well. Does anyone think that he could have done better with his original trainer? Or was it just "father time" catching up? Strange thing was that in the weigh -in pics, he looked great, while Sexton, to my mind looked drained. Has Rogie said anything about hanging up the gloves? Big time Congratulations to Paul McCloskey!
Rogies trainer said in an Irish newspaper that Rogie couldnt spar before his fight because of the injury he claimed to have before the fight.heres an article about it. Rogan knew he could only last eight rounds By David Kelly Monday, 9 November 2009 This content is protected As Martin Rogan weighs up his future, there are growing concerns as to whether he should have been passed to box Commonwealth heavyweight champion Sam Sexton on Friday night. Rogan retired on his stool after six exciting rounds and was later taken to hospital to have scans on a back injury which, according to coach Paul McCullagh, had been present throughout his preparation. “He never sparred a round,” revealed McCullagh who added: “We knew before the fight we only had seven or eight rounds.” Furthermore, McCullagh suggested that Rogan has been told “he needs an operation to correct it”. John Campbell of the Northern Ireland Area Council of the British Boxing Board of Control admitted he was “very surprised by those comments”. Despite the injury, Rogan almost had Sexton away in the fifth round as the champion reeled from a ferocious onslaught but in the sixth he had little left to offer. Now he must nurse his wounds and decide whether or not he can return to the ring in his 39th year and climb back to the top. McCullagh added: “He doesn't want to pack it in, he's very adamant he wants to fight on. He didn't want to let his fans down, he loves them. He did the best he could.” Rogan's career has certainly been a roller coaster, from taxi driver to champion and the best crowd puller since McGuigan. The 8,000 fans who packed into the Odyssey proved to be the biggest in the Province since Barry McGuigan's King's Hall days and there was 2,500 in Magherafelt for Paul McCloskey's European title fight at the same time. Council secretary Campbell said: “I think promoters now realise that we have a real hotbed for boxing and I am very confident that we are going to have many more big shows in the future. “To have two shows on in the one night and to have that response from the public is just tremendous.” This content is protected
Has anyone watched any of the early morning fights in a pub? I'm getting desperate ahead of Pacquiao/Cotto because I don't have Sky Sports and I don't want to spend the night switching between dodgy streams.
Sorry but AFAIK pubs don't show late night fights in Dublin. Well not any that I know of. That is unless you know a barman/owner who runs a lock in for such big fights.
Sounds good isnt that the club Lee and Power both boxed for?Wonder will we see any future champions coming through on Saturday.

The Irish Boxing Supporters Club is hoping to run a mini-bus to the Macklin fight from Belfast. this would pick up (if necessary) at Newry, Dundalk, Drogheda. If there was enough interest we would sort the tickets, if not, people can get their own. We have run buses from Newry to Belfast and Dublin but are now expanding to running things from Belfast. Also we would look at organising a meet up to watch the fight and maybe get a couple of the boxers along. Can anyone recommend a suitable bar in Belfast for such a thing? ie private room on a Friday night. If you have any ideas email me at This content is protected
Cormac, any big shows on the horizon.:huh What I mean is shows that have not been announced yet but are a possibility in the near future.
Early in the New Year there will be Lindsay's first defence and McCloskey's first defence. I'd imagine, more than likely they will be on two separate cards in Belfast. Also if Brian Magee beats Mads Larsen then there will be even more big shows in Belfast. Andy Lee fighting for the EU title is a clear indication that he is pushing for an EBU title shot - and with Macklin fighting in Dublin it would appear that the powers that be are building an appetite for the two to come head to head. Things are looking good as regards the number of shows. I do think things will continue swaying back towards Belfast as opposed to Dublin, where shows are more likely to be in the Stadium than the O2. Awards night is set for January 23. more info in the coming weeks.
Thanks Cormac, there was some talk of OHara and Sinclair getting title shots. Is that still a possibility???:think
