Sorry Podge. I was a bit strong there. We agree on the same thing. all I'm saying, though, is that boxing is open to as much cheating as football. If only all the people we watch on tv in various sports valued the traditions and virtues of the games they play (and we watch and love) then we wouldn't have all these things go on. Anyway, apologies. I'm just up to 90 after tonight. As furious as I am, I can see why Hnery did what he did, and why, while he might be apologetic in the aftermath in the next few days, he will never regret sticking his hand out and getting his team there
as regards cheating boxing is riddled with cheats low blows steroids and loaded gloves... its on if you can drag yourself away from work!
I'm sorry too mate, I know you're the most passionate fella here, I shouldn't have imflamed it - it brought me back to when Munster were robbed by Neil Back a few years ago, and I thought it was ****ed up then, and I still do. You're right - these ****heads are allowed to do it by all of us who love sport enabling the attitude of win-at-all- costs. To think Richard Dunne and Shay Given et al miss out 'cos of that ****-acting...Grrr. Back to following the boxing and seeing our lads continue doing the business on December 5. Anyone going to Alio's show on Friday? Gary Hyde swears by the two McDonaghs. I'd love to see if they can make an impression.
Aye, but they invariably get caught...at least higher profile cases. Margarito, Resto, Panama Lewis. Whether during or after the fact. Soccer lads do it, there for billions to see, and get to do it over and over 'cos the wankers in FIFA refuse to act properly. Chirst, I let myself wide open for a verbal shellacking. I'm waiting for a barrage of "What are you on about, Mongoloid? What about such and such/etc?. They got away with it in boxing." I'm just too tired and emotional after that shite tonight to think of a good example of who did. Lay 'em on me - I deserve it.
its on if you can drag yourself away from work!
Ouch. Touche, mon frere. I'll learn you good on December 5.

Conlon was brilliant on his debut:deal Garcia and Conlan add spice to Macklin undercard Thursday, 19 November 2009 This content is protected Cuban Super Middleweight sensation Luis Garcia and new Belfast pro Jamie Conlan are the latest additions to the undercard for the Sierra Fight Night at the National Stadium, Dublin on Saturday, December 5th. The card is headlined by European Middleweight Champ, Matthew Macklin as he takes on Uruguayan Champ Rafa Sosa Pintos in a non title contest with the event live on RTÉ TWO. Former World Junior amateur champion Garcia will be looking to extend his perfect professional record to 6 straight wins while flyweight Conlan will be looking to build upon an impressive debut win earlier this month. Garcia is one of a trio of World Junior amateur champions from Cuba who are now based in Cork and Gary Hyde who manages all three believes that Garcia is a future World Champion. Theres no doubt in my mind that Luis can go all the way, said Hyde. Hes sparred some of the top pros in the U.K. including a stint as the chief sparring partner for WBC Champ Carl Froch and I saw enough in those sessions to know he can go all the way. The 21-year-old Garcia who goes by the name of El León has already racked up 5 straight wins in the pro ranks with 4 of those coming via KO. Everyone that sees him knows they are looking at a special talent, said Hyde. The problem at this stage is finding opponents for him because so far hes blowing away the kind of guys who would be expected to give a young pro the rounds he needs to develop in the pros. Another man looking to continue his professional development on the December 5th card is Belfast flyweight Jamie Conlan. The John Breen trained fighter made a successful pro debut at the Odyssey Arena in his hometown earlier this month and Breen believes that hes a star for the future. Jamies really impressed me so far, said the veteran trainer. His attitude is very good and hes adapted to the pro ranks very quickly. In the lighter weights you can fast track guys through the pro ranks as there isnt the same number of boxers in those weights so I think if he keeps progressing and keeps improving in the gym theres no reason why he cant be knocking on the door for a title in 18 months. A pair of Irish title fights at Super Bantamweight (Paul Hyland V Eugene Heagney) and Super Middleweight (Anthony Fitzgerald V Lee Murtagh) also feature on the December 5th card alongside contests featuring unbeaten Dundalk lightweight Michael Kelly and exciting Dublin light welterweight Gavin The Pimpernel Prunty. Tickets for the Sierra Fight Night priced from 40 are available from Ticketmaster (phone 0818 719 300 or visit ticketmaster.ie) and all usual outlets.
jaysus me head isn't half sore today. Good news about the additions to the Macklin card. Can't wait for it now!
The show in Cork is getting better and better:happy Sweeney in search of big break 18 November 2009 - By Cormac Campbell Unbeaten Mayo light-heavyweight Michael Sweeney has told irish-boxing.com that he hopes to break into title contention in 2010. Sweeney, 8-0 (5KO), returns to the ring on December 4 in Cork, having stopped Limericks Jamie Power in three rounds in September, a fight he feels was worthy of an Irish title. "Im ranked on boxrec as the number one Irish light-heavyweight and he is number two," he said. "But it now looks like Power will fight John Waldron for the title in the New Year. I wonder will Power fight me again if he wins? I would love to win the Irish title and I think I can beat Waldron as well." "I had hoped Id get a fight on the Limerick show, but now Im in action on December 4 on a Paschal Collins show that features Gary OSullivan against Ciaran Healy. I also got a call from Banner Promotions who say I should be on a card in Mexico before Christmas. That will leave me 10-0 and in the mix. I want to take tough fights and progress. "But it is quite difficult to get tough fights. Ideally Id like to fight Tony Oakey thats my target because then I could push for European. The boys up North are definitely at an advantage because they can fight British and Commonwealth on the way up and there is a big gap between Irish level and European." Sweeney turned professional in 2007 after a promising amateur career that included national and multi-nations medals. However, after dropping out of the sport as a middleweight in 2001, he returned as a heavyweight, although he is now a light-heavyweight. "I spoke to Sean Manion who gave me some great advice. At the start there were lots of fights but then they stopped coming and then I had a collapses lung so that put me out for a while as well," he explained. "I spent a bit of time in Belfast with John Breen as well and it was great training. John maintains I am a super-middleweight and I even fought at 12 stone 2lb last year. "Im working with Sean and strength and conditioning coach Blue Shinner at the moment so training wise things are excellent. I think, like any professional you want to be up there testing yourself."
