Alexei stopped Sean Hughes in the second with a head shot Alexei was on course for bantamweight earlier in the week put had to put on weight to make 121lbs hughes weighed in at 124lbs Impressive win
Full house tonight. Acosta was class - I was so impressed with him. Although I felt sorry for Hughes - who was not overawed at all and put up a good fight. The stoppage by a flurry, was a little premature as Hughes was not hurt and covered up well. Both McDonaghs won, JJ was particularly impressive with a first round KO. Luke Wilton continued his excellent form with a first round KO. Excellent show. Will write it up tommorrow.
right, I am back in the homeland tomorrow for the FAI Cup Final - cant wait! our first final since '94! Doug, Healy - ye goin? Inta these frickin Jackeen bassas! :deal
Best of luck against Sporting Franchise their slapbangwhallop. Horrible made up team and I hope you give them a hiding
Booooooo come on Sporting Fingal. They play down the road from me..:yep. I think they will lift the Cup:thumbsup.
It looked from where I was sitting that Hughes could have went on. Sean fought a spirited first only for Acosta to surge forward in an exciting second and conclude matters. There was a great atmosphere last night for such a small venue, but great atmospheres and quality small hall promotions go hand in hand with team Alio. I hope Alio and Gary Hyde co-operate for more of the same in Belfast next year. The McDonagh brothers could be ones to look out for in the future, although Paddy[whose only 18 years old] should be carefully matched as i thought he was a little immature for the hardened pro game, and JJ needs to work on his conditioning as he looked to be carrying a few extra pounds around the midriff. Luke Wiltons contest was a pure mismatch on what was otherwise a great night of boxing. Both Graham Earls boxers[ Michael Devine and Gavin Putney] were victorious over Alio boxers Harvey and Townsley, in what were exciting slugfests. Gasman, did you get talking to Paul McCausland. He had some interesting things to say about future promotions in Belfast.
David Irvine, and apparently that was his last contest as he's handed in his resignation with the BBBofC
Whats the story with Irving then? Himself and Tiedt have a monopoly on most of the bigger fights on the island. You'd reckon he'd need a pretty good reason to want to jack it in
