I see Steven Ormonde is scheduled to fight on the Rigondeaux undercard at BB Kings NYC on the 16th December! Hope he ranks up another quick victory wish we could see this back home. Also Duddy scheduled to fight 23rd January at the Garden! Nice one.
Dunne and Hawkins are very close to the best of my knowledge. Dunne is not only close to Hawkins he's close to his family as well. Dunne definitely needs a warm up for Munroe IMO because you just don't know what he's going to be like on the back of the loss to Poonsawat. He may never, ever be anywhere near the same fighter again. As much as it pains me to say it losses like the Poonsawat one have finished many fighters in the past. The mental scars are what you have to worry about. None of us know how Dunne will react next time he takes a half decent and clean head shot. Mentally he might just no be able to hack it.
A fight with the binman, then the world next would seem the most likely course of action, although the RTE-SKY thing might cause problems.
If Dunne doesn't take the shot with Munroe could there be a chance that a certain other Dubliner get a shot at Munroes title in Paul Hyland? A good preformace on the Macklin under card could this move Hyland high enough for a shot with Munroe or is it too early for Paul.
Hawkins has never really been one for hype or the like. I dont think he would ever come across as overly sold on anything! I think he just says it as it is!!! Lets hope he doesnt hang them up just yet! but if he did he can hold his head high in the knowledge he has done Irish boxing a great service
who is duddy set to fight.. i seen qoutes from Bob Arum recently saying a fight with Chavez Jnr is possible??? Duddy would live up to his name and destroy him, taking a big name albeit an overated one!
----------------------------- I think its a keep busy and then less than 2 months after hopefully the match will chavez jr. I'm only speculating but its the undercard for the Lopez and Gamboa bouts
I know what Hawkins is like. he's never bold or brash or full of big talk. I just find that he has been ultra standoff-ish about whether or not Dunne should carry on. He may just be trying to avoid influencing Bernards decision. Or heres a worst case scenario. He knows Bernard can't make 122 anymore so he knows thats a bad idea fighting weight drained. But he also knows Bernard won't be strong enough at 126 and will get smashed to bits. Just throwing it out there. It only dawned on me today that this could be a possibility. He may not be able to make 122 and be strong and he may not be strong enough at 126. I hope not but it might be the way it is
Thanks ML, I hope everything is good with you. O'Connor is doing well. Is his fanbase growing among the Irish-American community.? Poonsawatts trainer said in an interview last week that it wasn't the same Dunne that fought cordoba that they fought, that Dunne didnt look as good. I thought the same on the night. Was he in as good of shape that night as he was against Cordoba? And I think everyone agrees, he looked the best I have ever seen him against cordoba, and he certainly wasnt weight drained, how can that change within a year?
I think your right about dunne needing a warm up before such a big fight with munroe which if he wins would get him back in line for a world title shot. After such a devestating loss to the little Thai you don't no how strong he would be mentally so a good tune up could get rid of a few doubts. I don't think munroe was impressive at all last weekend and I only had him winning by 1round. He's very easy hit and has to count on his superiour fitness to out work his oppenents and win fights. Although people would say that dunne dosent have the best chin in the world I think it would be safe to say that munroes pitter patter punches wouldn't knock him out. It's a very winable fight for Bernard. I think he would win the early rounds quite easy with his far better boxing skills but the key us to be super fit going into the fight so he can keep munroe of him in the latter rounds.
Dunne could get back on track with a Martinez rematch.Avenge one of his 2 losses-and it would appeal to dublin fight-fans.Martinez looked awful in the fights with Munroe but would Bernard want to face him knowing how he was blown out the last time? Dont really buy a fighter sayin he got caught cold-the fight starts in round 1 so expect the guy to be tryin to hit you.
Ardy, none of his fights are on tv so he isn't getting much exposure. He is doing what a professional is suppose to do by fighting and staying busy. More of a grassroots effort as he is fighting all over New England. He looks like a good prospect, but the lack of power is a cause for concern. BTW, his last fight is on you tube in its entirety.
