    Roadblock to Kelly v ***an
09 December 2009 - By Cormac Campbell A match-up between Irish lightweights Michael Kelly and Oisin ***an would appear to be a natural.
However, as is so often the case in boxing, making an appealing fight is easier said than done. Both men have made no secret of their desire to face each other, but ***an’s wish for the bout to be for the Irish title and Kelly’s current illegibility for said crown could prove to be something of a stumbling block.
"I think it would be a very intriguing fight between myself and Michael Kelly," ***an told irish-boxing.com.
"However, there's no point in taking him on, unless he's got a belt, or if we fight for a vacant title. Unfortunately for Kelly, there's a stipulation in the rules, which states that to contend an Irish title, you must have at least 2 x 8 round fights behind you and at this stage he doesn't.
"Thus, it might make more sense for me to fight Andy Murray next, as he's got both the Irish lightweight and the light-welterweight titles."
As the current EU champion, Murray’s ambitions appear to lie on the continent rather than on home soil, but ***an remains hopeful that the bout can be made.
"Let the record show that I duck nobody and would fight either of them. They are both very good, unbeaten prospects, whom I have a lot of time for, both personally and in respect of their boxing abilities. They'd definitely both be mouth-watering fights for the fans, and I'm all about that.
"I hope someone makes an offer, as I am excited about the prospect- let's get it on!"

****ing shite news:fire:fire. Let the boys fight, and in Dundalk where big time boxing will find a new home:happy:happy:happy

Exactly - I have to laugh at people trying to 'impose' a nationality on someone else. Macklin considers himself Irish - he is Irish.

    Nutter,

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that the bould Sligobhoy had a lot bit to do with the hype surrounding Kelly and ***an. I did the program for DolPhil's last show, and asked a few posters in ESB for their dream Irish match-ups in 2010.

Sligobhoy very kindly obliged and came up with Kelly and ***an among others. I put a piece together in the program about how it would be a craicer, Oisin read it on the night of the show, and when I interviewed him after he said it was a great match-up that he'd love to take.

So, moral of the story is, this Irish thread is promoting Irish boxing in more ways than we think.

Now, gentlemen, what other fights do we want for 2010 that those of us in the oul' meedja can put to the promoters? You never know - we might strike gold, the lot of us. Paddy Cronan could sell ice to the Eskimos, so its not beyond the realms of possibility that he'd persuade a few managers/promoters that a fight we suggest here is the way forward.

I'll start (besides Long-Fitz III, that is a given!) -

Spike - Fitzgerald. Tims - Sweeney. Perez - Rogan. How ya like dem apples?

Rather than have the Irish boxers can one another I would prefer it if we got a bill next year of Irish fighters facing English fighters - put on a great bill of good matches on Paddys weekend at the 02. That would be sweet.

Heavyweight: Tyson Fury v Coleman Barrett, once Barrett is eligible.

Or if Barrett is prepared to work on his weight,
Cruiserweight: Ian Tims v Coleman Barrett

    Light-Heavyweight: Sweeney v Waldron-Irish Light-heavyweight title. Probably wouldn't even be
competitive but Sweeney deserves the Irish title for proving himself the best Light-Heavyweight in the country.

Middleweight: Lee v Macklin is of course where the big big talk is, some don't want to see it at this stage of their careers. I wouldn't mind it, often when these fights are put of 'till it's a bigger fight' someone gets beaten along the way and it never happens.

    Light-Middleweight/Middleweight: Anto Fitzgerald v Spike O'Sullivan.

Light-Middleweight: Neil Sinclair v James Moore

Welterweight: Stephen Haughian v Willie Thompson

Lightweight: Oisín ***an v Michael kelly

    Super-featherweight: Eddie Hyland v Kevin O'Hara II

Featherweight: Martin Lindsay v Patrick Hyland

Super-Bantamweight: Carl Frampton v Eugene Heagney

Not all gonna happen obviously and the bigger ones are the ones that are probably less likely. If we got 3/4 of those I'd be happy though.
