http://irish-boxing.com/stories/december09/dec09_hyland_dunne.html Hyland v Dunne anybody? http://irish-boxing.com/stories/december09/dec09_macklin_opinion.html http://irish-boxing.com/stories/december09/dec09_murray_future.html
Theres tonnes of crap American Irish and British Irish boxers, and Irish people arent falling over themselves to claim them. In those cases, they're American or British. We're just as bad for claiming people as anyone else. People have only been talking about Macklin the "Irish boxer" in the past couple of years. As for the national anthem question. Why would he have a problem having God save the Queen played?. Im sure he must have stood for it dozens on times when he was an amateur fighting for Britain or England.
If Bernard is even contemplating Hyland then he should retire with immediate effect. No point in staying in the game to fight at sub EBU level.
well im sorry to say i do not have an extensive knowledge of all irish boxers across the globe "Theres tonnes of crap American Irish and British Irish boxers, and Irish people arent falling over themselves to claim them." We, well i certainly, don't know about most until they get into the limelight and a bit of publicity. And seriously you have to ask what my problem with an irish man standing for god save the queen is.....:huh
It would hardly be at the O2 either unless it was on the undercard of something else would it? Big step down
When the "Irish man" is born, reared, educated and boxed his whole amateur career in England, and has a strong Brummie accent, and still lives in England, then yes I do have to ask!
Fair enough i just see it differently, if you consider yourself Irish 'first and foremost' (Macklins words) you'd have an irish anthem. Of course he recognises his british background the statement even implies he's of dual nationality. I was just wondering does he play Amhrán na bhFiann in ireland and God save the queen in england. But if it was me and i considered myself to be more irish than english i'd have an Irish anthem wherever i fought :good
They're not as big for playing the national anthem at boxing fights in England and the likelyhood is Macklin has never had one played during his pro career for either his fights in the UK or US. So to my knowledge Macklin has only had Amhrán Na bhFiann played for him before he's fought. It does seem to me though that you're on a mission to discredit Macklin's Irishness. Jimmy McLarnin was from Belfast aswell lads(well only a few miles away).
On the Contrary Bigears I'm delighted he's so proud of his roots was at the andy lee fight in limerick and we were staying in the same hotel as mack and we were chattin to him bout the hurling and all sorts and told him i was delighted he recognized his 'Irishness', to me he is Irish. I was chattin to his brother in jury's after the fight on saturday and i said jokin i hope you've an Irish passport aswell and he said 'our da wouldn't have it any other way!!'
Ah right grand so :good, god knows if I ever get stuck in this hellish country and have a child here I wouldn't want people doubting their Irishness.
