Just saw on boxrec that Poonsawat is fighting some domestic Japanese Featherweight in his first defence. Honestly, as corrupt as boxing is, how do fights like this get made.

Seriously, how does some lad with 16 fights at FW, who has never fought outside of Japan manage to get a SBW world title shot. He has some OPBF title but I thought they were Suliman and the WBC's bitches. So how the **** can the WBA justify giving him a tilt? At least if it was the WBC he was getting a crack at you could say its the same old corruption. The mind really does boggle sometimes.

bambam the title is only the regular wba title so i think oyur lookin to into that...fighters get shots all thew time with less fights ...sure martin lindsay was offered a fight with cruz not too long ago and who has he really faught of note on the world stage

I know what you're saying but at least Lindsay had hit the road (Canada, Italy) fought some different types of opponents from different parts of the world and collected a Youth World title and the Brit Title on the way. This lad hasn't fought outside of his living room and he hasn't fought against anyone that doesn't live on the same road as him!

Assuming Martin Lindsay gets past Jamie Arthur, a big showdown with the Commonwealth champion John Simpson would be next. The posters in the Brit Forum are getting quite excited about this Greenock boxer, but to me Simpson attacks are one dimensional, comes forward in straight lines, limited power and has no change of pace [ although to be fair to him he does fight at a fairly high pace]. Simpson is a decent British title level boxer who is two or three levels below world level and if Lindsay can't defeat him, he has no place talking about world titles. What do you think lads?

OPBF title level is actually very strong(particularly at the lower weights), and the whoever holds that title at Featherweight and below will generally be better than the European champion at the same weight.

Yes it's mainly Japanese fighters that fight for it, although at the higher weight classes you see quite a lot of Australians but Japan is extremely strong when it comes to the lighter weight classes.

This guy has a win over Enoki aswell who is a good fighter and if he's able to make Super-Bantamweight without draining himself this could be a very tough assignment for Poonsawat. Now I haven't seen him myself, but I'm just going by the standard that OPBF/Japanese title level fighters are normally at and considering this fight is in Japan aswell I wouldn't be writing this guy off.

The PABA title although connected to the WBA(where as the OPBF is connected to the WBC as you said) is really just a title Thai fighters win to build up their rankings with the WBA. it's generally a very poor level as fighters rarely face tough opposition when holding that title.

OPBF champions on the other-hand generally will face the toughest opponents in the Oriental(as the WBC call it) and Pacific region.

I'm not writing the lad off I just think that its pretty poor that a lad with such limited exposure can get a shot. I know the asians dominate at lower weights and all that but its a bit of a leap to go from a little more than a dozen fights in Japan to world title contention. Because while it might be the 'regular' title at the moment Poonsawat is heir to Caballeros crown when the big man moves up so basically, unless soomething peculiar happens, this fight is for all the marbles.

But I looked at the WBA rankings there and they are pretty poor.
Bedak is #7 for **** sake. He's on a nice little run but to be that high is madness. He's only one spot behind Molitor. Has he done anything to warrant that? The WBA is pretty soft, though, at SBW. They have Rigondeaux at #15 after 3 fights. Now no matter how good we think he is or think he will turn out to be you can't be giving a lad that kind of ranking so soon. I think it might be an automatic with the NABA title but its still bull****

I'd like to see Escalante get his shot sooner rather than later anyway. I like him as a fighter. I guess it comes down to me being a bit old fashioned. I think you should have to either a) graft hard to get your shot and put in the effort and fights or b) do something spectacular to propel yourself to the front of the queue.

I'm just not a fan of lads with 14-15 fights, who haven't done anything hugely noteable, getting title shots when there are plenty of seasoned campaigners out there who would kill for the chance. Anyway this was a voluntary so its neither here nor there really

Tough for me this one, A big fan of both fighters and Being a proud Scot I'm in the same position as when Lindsay fought Appleby. I'd agree with most of your post there Ardy, Lindsay should win this one but Simpson is very experienced and will be a hand full, He's a tenacious wee fecker with a lot of heart and despite a good few losses i don't think he's ever been stopped.
Should make for a great fight and a good stepping stone to bigger and better things for the winner!

Since a few people have posted about "Big Rogie", I was just wondering if anyone knows about his plans. Is he going to get his injury repaired and give it another go?

It was one big chicken**** performance alright.

Lindsay beats Simpson but I don't think he goes much further than EBU level. He'd need to get lucky in running into a soft champion at the right time then produce a performance of a lifetime to make it at world level.

No bazza couldn't get me out before Xmas. Looks like it will be the end of jan in England somewere. Then feb again for my 1st 6rounder. Anyone hear when mccloskeys next fight will be? I heard the kings hall in feb or march... I would like to think I could get on to that especially if matchroom are promoting.
