Good to see Paddy getting recognised. Desi Hill and Gerard McManus have done a great job with him at Gleann in Belfast. Donal Burns and Mark Morris are ones to watch too.
Paddy and Tony talking about trains got me thinking about an Irish-American boxer called Chris Reid aka "The Shamrock Express". As Barry McGuigan became more and more popular, the US networks soon took an interest in this likable Irishman. But as interested as they were in screening Barry's contests, they also wanted more Americans on the Eastwood promotions to appeal to the American audiences. Barney soon drafted in the Micky Duff managed and Teddy Atlas trained Reid. Reid was like a 1980s John Duddy[ but with more power], and the Belfast crowd soon took a shine to the colourful New Yorker. Sadly Chris died in 2001. Whilst I am luck that over here I get to see so many pro cards I really miss out on the am stuff over there - especially when a season ticket for the stadium is only about 100 yo yo's - in this day and age that is crackin value. p.s. Ardy, enjoyed those vids!
This content is protected On February 19th, Matthew Macklin (26-2 18KOs) was meant to defend his European middleweight title against undefeated Russian Dmitry Pirog (14-0 11KOs). However, the fight has now been pushed back to April to make it an eliminator for the WBO Middleweight crown. A Hatton Promotions press release said The fight will also double as a WBO middleweight eliminator as Macklin ranks at number four whilst the unbeaten Russian is rated at number two and holds the WBO Asia Pacific middleweight title. As of late, Birmingham's Macklin has been on a tear. In his last outing, he floored Rafael Sosa Pintos three times en route to a points win, whereas in the fight previous, he flattened world ranked Amin Asikainen in a round. Pirog has also been on a good run. He won the WBC International middleweight title in his most recent bout, beating Kofi Jantuah to claim the belt.
