BoxingFan About time? It was a virtual lovefest for Joey before, especially during and after his fight with Traeitti. I like the kid ... I honestly thought he would lose to Traeitti ... but he's a good kid. Don't rush him now. That was a good win but beating Chris Traeitti does not put Joey into the upper echelon of light heavyweight prospects. Give the Riveras some more time with him. The difference between Joey now and his debut in Dorchester is unreal. Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com Thursday Night - Kermit Cintron and Gary Shaw!

Is McCreedy irish or irish-american? In any event I hope he is the real deal. I have been hoping for a new up and coming irish-american fighter with potential for some time now. Maybe we irish-americans will finally have our guy? Let's hope so. I was at the third Gatti-Ward fight surrounded by a bunch of guidos screaming for Gatti. But I still could not contain a fist-pump when Ward had him briefly on the deck before losing a close decision.
mccreedy i think is irishamerican but who knows if he is the real deal he shew has a big heart coming off a brokwn jaw and challaging a top underfited pospect and beat him the onley thing i can say about mccreedy the kid has abigheart and he is a warrior a injry likethat could mess wit guys heads steping back in the ring.
All irish fighters have heart. Even fighters that people consider to be 'journeymen' or 'stiffs' of irish descent have never shown a yellow steak or propensity to quit. I speak mainly about fighters like Peter McNeely and Kevin Mcbride. McBride showed a big heart and guts in a losing effort to Golota not long ago. Although he did not show a will to be dedication and get in great condition. Gerry Cooney and Tommy 'the duke' Morrison had a lot of heart. Although Cooney did not have good recuperative powers after getting hurt. "Irish" Micky Ward had a will of steel and great conditioning. German Max Schmelling said that Mickey Walker was the bravest man he ever fought. Joe Louis said the same thing about the "Cinderella Man" James J. Braddock. Irishmen do not quit - ever. That is a source of great pride in the tradition of irish fighters.
amen to that brother...im irish myself....you should post on the irish boxing thread... a brit is only after questioning micky wards irishness
That's Dave Casper in my avatar. He was an Irish-american who played for the Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers from 1974-84. Before that he starred for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in college. I guess american football is not popular abroad. Ghost had the rugged quality of the irish. He was a big, tough read-headed guy who's arms always bled because his skin would be rubbed raw from turf burns. He is in the pro football hall of fame as of 2002. His nose frequently bled too but that did not stop him either. Boxer Jerry Quarry and Casper were my two favorite athletes of the 1970's.
It will be a great night at Madision Square Garden on february 23rd. The Irish fans will be there to support John Duddy. Ukrainians from nearby Brooklyn and Staten Island will come out en masse to support Wladimir Klitschko. As well as russian fans, or at least ones from the southern part of the former soviet union (Dagestan) will be out to root for Ibraginov. Irish sensation Andy Lee is in the Klitschko camp giving Wlad valuable sparring mimicking Ibraginov's southpaw stance. My question to Ardy, shamrock and the rest of the Irish fans is - Who are you going to be for? Klitschko or Ibraginov? Both seem like very nice guys. I think Klitschko is going to win and I want him to win. I am a Wlad fan. Think he is one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time and a verry classy and likeable fellow. I have been to both russia and ukraine several times each. I love borsht soup, chicken kiev, and the hospitality of the slavic people.
Thanks fra. Micky Ward used to have the irish flag on his mouthpiece. After 9/11, Ward started wearing trunks with an american flag to show his patriotism. Before that he always wore kelly green and white. I met micky at a local department store in 2004. He is the most down to earth coolest guy you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. I was a little starstruck but he made me feel at ease. There is no pretentiousness or phoniness whatsoever in Irish Micky. Englsh? Micky Ward is an irish catholic from Lowell, MA.
I like Klitscho, so I hope he wins on the 23rd.Sardu, I worked in Tash Kent, Uzbekistan, shortly after the fragmentation of the Soviet Union. Tash kent had a population of 3 million, of which 1 million were ethnic Russian. Our cook was Russian, and she liked to feed us borsht regularly. They enjoy their cabbages. There was a dish were the cook fried eggs and cabbage together.Smelt wonderful, tasted awful.
