Irish weight by weight rankings

Historically (I wasn't talking about the last 13 years or whatever timeframe suits your argument) we have had more world champions than Britain on a per capita basis.

 

A term made up by Brits in an attempt to make people of Irish descent feel ashamed of their roots?

 

I think an arguement could be made for murray ahead of Duddy. Duddys not been that impressive in his last few outings,even prior to jcc jr although granted murray needs to step up the opposition.
I think deano should be ranked above Gavin. Deanos fought some guys who have extended other top fighters. I think gavin has more potential but if the rankings purely on professional achievements id have deano ahead.

You start a thread insulting the British Boxing Posters knowledge by stating most of us wouldn't know half of them because they haven't been on Sky yet you have the cheek to say that we are 'Paddy Bashing' or 'trolling'

If the heritage of all those fighters are that importnat to you, put this thread on the European Forum or on the Irish Thread. I have no problem discussing Irish fighters on this forum but if you are going to come on here and insult us before the first reply to your thread has been posted then you can take this **** elswhere. also please explain how Irish is more successful in pro boxing than British? even if we give you Macklin and the Northern Irish guys.

Well maybe you shouldn't stoop to the levels of the detractors.

Why isn't Fury ranked? He's now gone ten rounds and competed in a scheduled 12 rounder, so surely he's elligible? Or is he still unable to prove his father's place of birth?

Also McDonagh has retired, so he shouldn't be ranked.

I'm afraid some of the divisions are full of fighters who've i've never seen (light heavy), but the depth of some of the divisions is pretty impressive (middle, lww, feather & super bantam).

 

That's been claimed before and it simply isn't true. Show me your proof.

 

Sorry. Thomas McDonagh. After Woolcombe pulled out of the Commonwealth title fight, McDonagh got offered that Lusambya fella that got demolished by Craig Watson. He pulled out and was reported to have retired.

 

If a UK citizen fights for the British title or fights in the UK they are a UK boxer. If an Irish citizen fights for the Irish title or fights in Ireland they are an Irish boxer. if they do both then they are both. If they have Irish parents but have never had a fight in Ireland.....im sorry but there not an Irish boxer.

not missing the point at all. you started a thread about Irish boxing in a british boxing forum, where your saying

louglain saying that Martin Lindsay is fighting for the british title for business reasons, but Frankie Gavin has said he may fight for the title in the future because he is proud to be irish. surely that is hypocritical?

Fair enough they qualify for a Irish title, but surley you should of had to have boxed in Ireland to be eligable. Frankie Gavin, the Walsh brothers are all licensed boxers with the British Boxing Board of Control, they are not licensed by the Irish equivalent so how can they be eligable to box for the Irish title???? because some bloke in Ireland phoned them and asked them!!!

 

Rob, Gavin has boxed in Belfast. Not the Republic I know, but that an argument that is probably best saved for another day and a different part of the forum.

 

we have had 17x more world champions than you this century. if you go into history it probably a higher rate.

When calculating the population of the UK where does Matthew Macklin fit in? He lives in England but he is Irish??? Confusing know? If we go by your logic the population would be halved and I wouldn't count and English.

 

To be fair to Dan I think he's quite consistent in his outlook. He stated in another thread that he thought the likes of Haroon Khan, Pietersen, Hargreaves et al were 'traitors'. So I don't think he's singling out British born Irish fighters.
