People will often take a quick glance over a fighters record and if they see several stoppage losses, well, said fighter isn't going to be held in very high regard durability wise.

There's more to it than that, however.

Some iron chinned fighters were vulnerable to cuts. Others may have been stopped on their feet prematurely without actually being hurt. There's a lot of different situations where a fighter can be stopped in boxing.

What fighters had good, or even all time great chins but had stoppage losses on their records that were deceiving?

Wayne McCullough for example was stopped twice.

They were mercy stoppages in-between rounds however, hardly anything to do with him having durability issues. A testament to his toughness if anything.

Merqui Sosa comes to mind immediately. He's still pissed off now, about Roy Jones stopping him I reckon. That was towards the end of his career

    Good example.

I think Tony Thorton had an iron chin as well. Roy Jones bowled him over but he was on his feet and slipped a huge number of Jones shots when he was stopped. That was premature in my opinion. :-(

What happened with Sosa against Butler and Thomas Tate? Were those the straight up KO's that boxrec indicates?

Doug DeWitt had a great chin to make up for his leaky defence, but was starched a few times once it started letting him down.

Armando Muniz eventually cracked as well, but was great for a good few years.

Always was a fan of Locomotora - seeing him getting stopped after that car accident against mediocre Herrera was even worse.:-(

I thought Bramble had an iron chin, but he never faced a guy who could punch like Rosario.
