I do not think that being a Gentleman will help Gerry very much against Iron Mike Tyson, who chops down Cooney by round 9, as the crowd roars TIMBER.

I’ll go so far as to say Cooney is tailor made for Mike

Tyson would prevail after some shaky moments.

    KO2.

Cooney will not handle the speed and combinations from this guy. Tyson throws anything at 12:00 and it lands. And there is no way Cooney's defense avoids or slips Mike's 2nd and 3rd punch. Cooney's chance would be so much better if he fought tall and moved his feet better and faster.

This is the kind of fight Tyson looks like a world's best destroyer ---and an addition to Tyson's greatest hits video

Tyson early KO against any version of Cooney.

    Gerry has no chance whatsoever.

LOL. Cooney is not lasting 9.

The man had a mediocre chin, a HORRENDOUS defense, and was totally inept at clinching when hurt. Those three deficiencies combined means an early night against Tyson.

I concur. Cooney would fall like a tree felled in the forest. At best he may catch Tyson with a left hook and rattle him momentarily like Bruno did. But that's his best case scenario.

Yeah, I was thinking that would be Cooney's best case. That he catches Mike with a hook that momentarily buzzes him. But Tyson had excellent recuperative powers early on - you had to give Mike a sustained beating to stop him - which Cooney wouldn't be around long enough to do.

Realistically, Conney has no chance against Tyson, Lewis, Holy, Bowe, but of those four he has his best chance against Bowe (and even that's a slim one).

Cooney wouldn’t last long but it would be a fun fight. Tyson KO two. The above posters correctly pointed out the flaws of Gerry were all wrong for a Tyson fight. His chin was mediocre, his defense was bad and he had no ability to clinch.
Tyson is too fast, too aggressive and his chin and defense too good for Gerry to put him away even if he got caught with Gerry’s admittedly great left hook.
Prime Gerry (Norton bout) would come out swinging making for a really fun fight but he would get hurt and finished in probably two rounds.
Of the great heavies of the late 80s early 90s Tyson is the worst match up for him.
Cooney does get somewhat underrated because too many people factor in what Spinks and Foreman did to him (although both fights showcased inability to clinch when hurt) that version of Cooney was a total shell of the Cooney on the rise in the late 70s early 80s. The real Cooney ended after the Holmes bout.

A terrible match-up for Cooney, or any fighter mentally
weak. Tyson ruins Cooney within 5rds. And unlike after the
Holmes fight Cooney probably never gets into a
    boxing ring again.

I would pick Tyson to win early. Tyson would have been prepared for the left hook. No way Cooney could have survived Tyson's speed and power.

Cooney would not even last 4 rounds against Tyson.

Could see this being a massacre. Cooney a tall guy, straight-up style, long in the body, slow and cumbersome....That's a big, big target for Tyson. It's not as if Cooney was really that adept at making his height and reach work in his favour, either. Cooney's left could bother anyone if he lands it cleanly, but I don't think he's getting Tyson out of there with one shot and I'd be surprised if he could land any more than one big shot at a time.

I think Tyson chops him down, or at least stops a badly beaten Cooney on his feet, within six or seven rounds.
