Tyson would chlop Cooney`s body down, Cooney never faced a body puncher like Mike and had a soft mid-section:

Mike Tyson should win by Stoppage sometime inside the distance. But I don’t necessarily think it would have to be the one sided slaughter that some think.

 

Tyson in 2-3 rounds. Bad match up for Cooney, maybe he worst.

 

Why would you think it wouldn't be ? (.A honest question no games) I see it as Tysons all wrong for Cooney because Cooneys lack of foot speed, he was a heck of a puncher, but he wasn't a physical fighter, and he would need physicality to control Tysons combo burst by pushing him off balance, or tieing him up, when in trouble, pushing him back to the center of the ring wash and repeat. He just didn't fight that way. Cooney had a good jab, but wasn't special with it, and Tyson probably would be able to out jab Cooney despite the size difference ( Tyson out jabbed many taller fighters in his prime) his hand speed and timing was better. I don't see anyway Cooney wouldn't be blown out in this fight. And I like Cooney and have defended many times on this site.

 

Because simply put, there were a lot of guys who fought Tyson whom he didn’t “ blow out, “ including many who didn’t have Cooney’s height, reach or power. Tyrell Biggs who had no power, no chin and even less height and reach than Cooney would still went seven rounds with him. Ruddock went 12. Mitch Green went 10. Ribalta went 10. Frank Bruno despite being off for 16 months went 5 rounds and momentarily staggered him.

well he beat Bonecrusher Smith, Frank Bruno, Alex Stewart, Razor Ruddock, Andrew Golata, Jessie Ferguson and probably a few others... Granted all those guys were on varying levels of quality and skill but still..

 

Mike Tyson in 2 rounds Gerry cooney simply wasn’t that good, no upper body movement. Didn’t use his height and reach at times, and was very stiff mike would’ve teed off on him

Valid points with exception of Biggs. Tyson himself said he wanted to torture Biggs , and could've ended that fight anytime he choosed after the 1st two rds. ( Remember the crying like a girl/ sounding like a woman comments after The Biggs fight.) And the others you named were much tougher ( In my opinion) than Cooney though not as good a fighter. But good stuff, though I don't agree... Cheers.

I think some of those guys hit pretty hard. Frank Bruno particularly is an underrated puncher. Only two of his victims went the distance with him and one of those guys was never stopped in over 70 fights !!!
