So I've recently started participating in a sport that has me constantly bruised. At anytime I'm apt to have 5-6 bruises/welts at least 7 inches in diameter (often much larger, especially on the legs). I checked google but could not find any clear data on whether or not this would lower my iron levels and be cause for me to supplement more iron. I'm currently only getting it as part of my multivitamin(100% daily value). I'm a 29 year old male.

What do you think ESB? Opinions are valued, links to studies would be awesome. I'm aware that it's possible for males to take too much iron, which is why I'm concerned about raising my intake.

Why exactly are you singling out iron? What about all the other minerals? You should fix your diet instead of speculating what one of many minerals does for you.

well besisde the normal Ice for a few days then applying heat i would suggest using aloe vera. Can be taken orally via pills and externally in a cream form. Iron pills have little if anything to do with what you are looking for i have to tell you.

What he needs is not one supplement but a proper diet. A diet rich in micronutrients will speed up recovery a lot. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, etc. That's what he needs, not an iron pill.

Iron is directly related to red blood cells, it aids in the transport of oxygen and the removal of co2 and it's levels are severely diminished in people with regular blood loss. Mainly women via menstrual cycles, but other internal injuries too. If you have low iron you bruise easily, so there is a connection to iron and bruising. If you play a sport you need to get more than an average amount of oxygen to your muscles, so iron has a very direct connection there as well. This is why I singled out iron.

The point of the question was to try to determine if massive constant bruising correlated with loss of iron in the same way as minor constant bleeding.

You misunderstand the question. Or perhaps intentionally misinterpret.

Other minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals play just as important roles in among other things the immune system. You have given me no reason to single out this particular one.

You don't lose blood through a bruise, so I guess not. But by all means supplement iron. You'll read something about zink next week and may discover vitamins next month. You'll be eating 70 pills a day soon. A proper diet (and I mean really proper, not just an extra banana a day while living off mcdonalds food) provides you with each and every one of them in abundance.

You and I both know you are acting a dick because you don't like me, the pompous arrogance is your natural demeanor but often you at least try to answer questions. How about you stop trying to "help" me and just go about your life feeling superior. If I can't get opinions from anyone else my question threads can just sit empty and scroll off the page.

He's right, though, however he says it.

Why have you picked out iron specifically over all the other minerals that help with recovery?

My question was serious and legit, there is no reason to single out one mineral.

No I have not, that's RDJ's assumption and he's succeeded in projecting it as my own. I had a simple specific question about iron, that does in no way imply that I ignore other minerals.

You started a thread on supplementing one single mineral, genius. Hence my sincere and valid question, why single out that particular one? You gave no reason at all. Iron isn't exactly a rare element in natural foods.

You sort of have to single out something to ask a specific question about it. This does not mean that in my routine I'm only focusing on my iron levels.
