Ironically, Big George didn't deserve the shot he got from Moorer

I believe Moorer chose to fight Foreman as Foreman was a huge name that would have been used to build his reputation.

That certainly didn't go to plan.

Really classy post right after the man just died. Attention seeking much?

I got your point, but there is a looooooong list of boxing champions who got an undeserved chance.
Just to mention one case; Jersey Joe Walcott got a gazimillions of chances until he became world champion literally by exhaustion.

Why to focus on Big George,

On the subject of Michael Moorer, has anyone else seen how classy he has been - again - throughout the recent days?

It's a shame for the man. His brief time at the top is only remembered as a stepping stone for George but he is charitable and courteous and dignified. He comes over as a really great guy.

It's a shame if his own accomplishments get overlooked. He was a gutsy fighter who gave us some great duels. He went out on his shield in the Evander rematch and the Cooper and Stewart wars are excellent fights.

Glad to see he has improved and matured.

IIRC for a few years after the fight he used to be kind of cocky and despondent attributing his defeat to unexpected factors and not giving Big George proper credit.

Moorer was going through a lot in the nineties and clearly had his share of problems, just like most other troubled, talented guys that Steward took in. He's taken his time to mature and become a man, and it's good to see.

Michael was assaulting guys just days out of the Stewart fight and breaking cop's jaws in the nineties... So he's come a long way.

Why does it matter? George has nothing to do with the issue I highlighted. He had no power in this regard. Moorer gave him the shot, so he took it and made history. No fault of his own that MM wanted an easy pay day. What, because the man died, we can't say he didn't deserve the shot and Moorer just chose him because he was bigger than life at the time?

No, he didn't and he lost to Tommy Morrison and a year and a half of inactivity. But George could put butts in seats so he got the fight. And he WON! Now take a fighter like Andrew Golota who fought for every single title, he didn't deserve one single title fight, but he put butts in seats and sold PPV cards.

Golota definitely didn't deserve the Lewis nor Byrd fights. You can argue he deserved the Ruiz and Brewster fights tho.
