LOL I live in a multi million pound country estate, my suits are bespoke from Savile Row, and I write with Conway Stewart pens inbetween driving my Aston Martin.

I am a hunky chunky pretty boy, you're probably of colour and think that the high life consists of a Jaguar XF in a semi detached house on the edge of a town:patsch:tired

Your pitiful Vcash sums your knowledge up, furthermore look at that pathetic excuse for a boxer as your display.

LOL another ***** with a half nude man as his avatar :patsch:verysad:dead:dead:dead

I don't know about Jones. That fight didn't always make a lot of sense, but Hopkins definitely avoided him. He accepted a very good deal and the fight was on, only to demand double the next day. The first amount was huge money for him so why would he then demand twice as much? It makes no sense.

Jones has a fragile GLASS MANDIBLE. :deal

It is no wonder he flat out refused to fight most of the best fighters of his generation, hiding behind mandotories for his trinket belts.

Remember when Larry Merchant told him "you are bigger than the belts now, go fight the best".. Jones replies something like "if I don't fight the mandatory they strip me.":rofl:patsch

I think the mandatory Jones had just beat up on was the NY City cop Rick Frazier. :patsch

Jones was obsessed with collecting belts - even the garbage ones like IBA, WBU etc. He wasn't interested in fighting the best though, and used his mandatories as a cop out. :thumbsup

:rofl:patsch What a preposterous post. So Hopkins was looking for bigger and better fights, that's why he ducked a legit, long-reigning Champion in Zaggers and a huge payday in order to fight Morrade Hakkar. :dead

Hopkins fought his mandatories like Hakkar, Allen and Daniels to keep his titles and while no big fights materialised until he fought De La Hoya lets not pretend that Hopkins didn't try to negoiate big fights.

Hopkins wanted a lucrative rematch against Tito after he beat him the first time but Tito instead decided to retire after he beat Cherifi.

Then there were the negotiations to fight Jones Jr which of course never materialised due to the purse split.

Hopkins then signed to fight Toney at cruiserweight on Aug 2003 but Don King at the last moment tried to low ball Hopkins and tried to go back on the signed contract and reduce Hopkins purse and with Hopkins history of being screwed by former promoter Butch Lewis and Kings well known habit of screwing over his fighters, Hopkins wisely backed out.

It's easy to be a online boxrec warrior and see things out of context but you have to look at what was happening at the time. Hopkins was offered the Calzaghe fight as part of a 3 fight deal with showtime which also included him fighting Harry Simon and the fact is at the time he didn't have any interest in that deal he didn't even consider it a viable option. He wanted deals to fight the likes of Tito, Jones Jr, De La Hoya and the Toney not some unknown light middle and some euro fighter who wasn't even regarded as the top supermiddle weight as most US publication mistakenly regarded Ottke as the top supermiddle.

Nothing beats a good ol revisionist thread to keep the ESB joy boys going. Let me see Hopkins was coming off wins over the likes of Tito. Joe meanwhile was still defending the WBO in his back yard vs Tocker Pudwill. Joe was a nobody back then. He was barely known in this country much less stateside.
Why doesn't the OP explain why Joe refused to fight Sven his NEAREST competitor? What about the middleweight Tourney that Joe refused to participate in?

Look at his post history, you will easily find much worse than this. Like Scurla says, Joe was a nobody back then.

    Irrefutable proof my ass.
