    Gneus7,

He was an unattractive proposition because he was a relatively unknown SMW with a lightly regarded belt.

    He had 2 choices:

    1. Accept it.

    2. Make himself more of an attractive proposition.

He could have fought in the U.S.

He could have targeted other named fighters.

He could have moved up to LHW and moved up the rankings etc.

He was starving himself in some of his camps.

He said himself that 175 was his ideal weight. He said he'd feel stronger and he'd have advantages in speed over his competition.

He flirted with moving up for years.

Have a look at the following links:

He then went on to fight Mitchell, Mkrtchyan and Salem.

He then went and faced Mario Veit again, despite the fact that he'd already stopped him in a single round just 4 years earlier.

Do you seriously think that a big money fight was going to present itself to Joe when he was younger?

Ricky Hatton is the perfect example to show how Joe should have handled his career.

He left Frank, he went to the U.S. to raise his profile, he made himself a more attractive proposition, and he made concessions to get the best fights.

If he'd have stayed with Frank, he would never have been able to have fought Floyd and Manny.

    Imagine the following scenario:

Imagine that before Ricky had beaten Kostya, he'd signed a deal with Showtime, and then he'd asked Floyd to change networks and to drop down to his weight class to fight for his lightly regarded title.

How laughable would that have been?

Yet that is essentially what Frank and Joe did to try and fight Roy.

It's hardly surprising that he was rebuffed.

Joe was jealous of Ricky. Because Ricky got far more attention, even though Joe and everyone else knew that Joe was the superior fighter.

There are no guaranteed big fights for most guys.

You have to be proactive to obtain them.

why has irrefutable proof taken 24 pages of debate. slappy should embrace his legacy for what it is. It will never be more.

    Gneus7,

Regarding Dariusz, again, he could have targeted him when he realised that Ottke wasn't going to offer him the opportunity to unify.

Joe never rated Tarver. He said he didn't excite him and he was only famous for beating a shot version of Roy.

Yes, beating Lacy and Kessler gave him recognition and opened the door to bigger fights. So wouldn't it be logical to say that had he have fought U.S. named opposition earlier in his career, that could also have opened the door to bigger fights?

    Yes?

If he'd have gone to the U.S. earlier and fought up at LHW, I'm sure Showtime could have put something together. Or he could have worked his way up the rankings etc.

Below are some more excerpts from Joe's autobiography.

    Scroll down to page 281-282.

There's some interesting comments regarding his fear of flying and fighting Peter Manfredo:

Two years ago, I was told (I can't disclose who by) that I was a certainty to win an award for the most deluded fanboy. Yet my mantelpiece remains empty.

MindReader promised me some of his Chappie dog food that he'd won at the ceremony. Yet I'm still awaiting a package from Oregon.
