You're right, Hopkins was utterly terrified of the preeminent slapper of his day.

:rofl:patsch Are you serious implying that Zaggers ducked Squishy-nosed Sven Ottke?

This thread has attracted a host of ill-informed lunatics. What happened to serious boxing debate? :patsch:dead

hopkins satyed inactive for a over a year before facing hakkar...that was the period he was offered £3m to face calzaghe in the us...which he turned down...to do nothing...then later face his easy mando who no-one had heard of for peanuts.

    at that time:

    don king was promoting b-hop.

    goosen was promoting toney.

why would hopkin's own promoter try to "reduce his purse" seeing as how that would mean he also got paid less?

i sense that most of that is absolute bollocks.

40 yr old Jones dropped Calzaghe. I honestly don't feel that Calzaghe would have been able to handle prime Roy's speed and power.

The money for a Calzaghe fight was more than anything else Hopkins could get at the time. They accepted because it was a fair offer and then Hopkins demanded twice as much. Ridiculous. The money was right the first time so why did he demand double?

Old and shot Calzaghe beat prime Hopkins and post prime Jones.

You'll find that Don King invited Joe to participate in the Middle Weight tournamet. Joe declined. And it wasn't because he didn't want to loose the 8lbs.

The negotiations for the Hopkins/Toney fight are well documented clearly you were not following Hopkins or Toney's career at the time and are just happy to make assumptions based upon your own opinion rather than actual facts.

Basically what happened was that King promised both Hopkins and Toney more than the fight was worth. Hopkins signed the contract agreeing to I think a $3 mill payday but when King negotiated with HBO they were not willing to pay either fighter as much as King had promised and had legally signed a contract to pay. Toney was willing to take a pay cut believing the PPV would do better than HBO had predicted but Hopkins would have none of it and demanded what he had legally been promised to him in the contract he had signed. So the fight fell through. Can't blame Hopkins for not budging upon the agreed amount, Butch Lewis a former promoter had robbed him blind and King is well known for not paying his fighters in full.

Which was it Joe afraid to fly? Or too comfortable in his back yard making easy money? Had no problems flying to Denmark to face Will Mcyntre though on the Tyson undercard. What a farce that fight was. Who on earth was Cease fire Mcyntyre? The guy was a complete can. Even Joe attempted to get the fight waved off early. Guess we can cross off the fear of flying....
Nothing like a good ol FACT to get in the way of joy boy reality.

Jones is a Glass Jawed fraud who handpicked and manipulated his way through weight classes without ever beating a Undisputed, Unified, or Lineal Champion.

His whole career was smoke and mirrors. When he did fight Calzaghe he got schooled, taunted, and embarrassed.

:patsch Jones got dropped by Del Valle
    Hopkins dropped twice by Hakkar
    Ward by a journeyman
    Dawson several times
    Dirrell by a journeyman

Get it? Knockdowns happen. Just because a fighter gets knocked down doesnt mean a great deal at all, its what happens in the fight overall. You are talking like Calzaghe was prime, Calzaghe was 36 and Jones 39 and Calzaghe was nearer the end of his career than Jones. Fact is Calzaghe was up well in time and didnt need to hold and wasnt staggering around the ring, Calzaghe was coming forward throwing punches. At least tell the facts.
