Haters will hate, but facts are facts.
Calzaghe beat Americas 2 best SMWs of his era and all of the top American SMWs that would face him, then Calzaghe beat 2 American legends who couldnt duck him any longer.

Great thread by 46-0, a truly elite poster :happy:happy:happy

this is the problem with boxers...the always think twice of fighitng a extremely effective swarmer like calzaghe...they will fight boxer-punchers all day.

that's not what happened. not far off tho. better than what you first said. interested to see a source (if these "actual facts" are "well documented" that shouldn't be hard) that blames king for the inability of goosen to follow through on his initial offer because hbo budgeted less up front than was initially expected for the fight. i would specifically want to see a source that agrees with your comment that hopkin's own promoter "low-balled" him "at the last minute"...altho i am sure that king did want the fight to happen as he was probably fed up of self promoting, broadcasting & financing money losing shows with b-hop taking on over-matched mando's in front of sparse crowds. but whatever...

    bottom line is:

for the toney fight goosen went to king with an offer...with b-hop getting the larger share of the purse...despite toney's title being the one on the line.
hopkins wanted more than could be delivered. the fight fell through.

simllar to when warren made king an offer of £3m to fight b-hop...with calzaghe getting less & calzaghe's title being the only one on the line. hopkins wanted double that. the fight fell through.

with rjj hopkins would got the smaller end of the purse by 60/40...to face a guy whose titles would be on the line & who had already beaten him.
hopkins wanted more. the fight fell through.

so instead...b-hop took on hakkar & joppy & allen in half empty venues for peanuts compared to what he could have earned. he had no worries about don king being his promoter for those fights, funnily enough. king, in fact, was sole promoter for those fights & they were all shown on don king ppv iirc as hbo wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

king later went on to claim that hopkins turned down the big fights (including a signed contract for a tito rematch) & actively lobbied the abc orgs to enforce lesser known mandos in fights that king claimed he was embarrassed to promote...altho it is wise to take what king says with a pinch of salt...even if b-hop has a lot of other former promoters chatting similar **** about him...

you can blame king if you want (he has a very bad rep in the business for good reason but when was he EVER the guy who didn't want a big fight to happen? especially if he got to promote it as he would have all those fights) but imo the blame for those fights not happening clearly lies with b-hop. he rejected very good offers & demanded crazy money for all those fights. you say "lets not pretend that Hopkins didn't try to negoiate big fights"? tell you what...if hopkins hadn't been a total ***** in all those "negotiations" (& all negotiations that king was absolutely fine with...i have yet to see or hear anything anywhere about him being the reason any of those negotiations fell through); those fights would have happened.

you making **** excuses & slagging off don king doesn't change that.

Calzaghe was before the Lacy fight. Most people favored Lacy in that fight. Hopkins or Jones would have been massive favorites in a fight nobody would have cared about.

yeah america was engrossed by the world famous hakkar and so was hopkins for the $850'000 he recieved

you can understand him waiting a year and choosing that fight though when he was only going to recieve $3m for fighting joe calzaghe. we all know that hopkins doesn't like those career high paydays :rofl

ignorant, narrow minded, cum guzzling tranny queens like peppermint pig should be banned from esb for the sake of boxing :-(
