Like every fighter since the Stone Age, pw, Ward wants EVERY EDGE he can get, whether it's weight, ring size, venue, gloves, ref, purse split, you name it.

 

The problem with Dawson is that he switches trainers often. As much as I don't think highly of Scully, he didn't have the time to evaluate Dawson, see what he does wrong, and what part of his game that needs to be fixed. Dawson hired Scully right in the middle of the Hopkins fight.

Had Dawson stayed with Steward, he definitely would have fixed many of Dawson's mistakes, such as his footwork. I know Floyd Sr yelled at Dawson during training camp because he was doing a lot of things wrongs, and Sr tried to teach Dawson how he should box, it was the reason why Floyd called Chad a ******. But the hard work he put up with Sr paid off in the ring. Unfortunately Chad couldn't put up with Sr's boot camp mentality. Chad was still a work-in-progress at that time, and when he hired Eddie Muhammad he didn't look the same.
