I just read an absolutely baffling thread recently not naming any names, but let's look at the 154lb division which you could make an argument for being the best division and most stacked division in the sport Demetrius Andrade a 6 feet 1 power punching, slick boxer looks fairly untouchable so far as a pro, beaten guys like thurman as an amateur Erislandy Lara, a slick Southpaw and almost impossible to outbox, one of the most skilled and effective boxers in the world Jermal Charlo World champion, huge for the weight at 6 foot, well rounded and one of the brightest talents in boxing, the harder puncher of the two charlos Jermel Charlo Miguel Cotto Saul Canelo - needs no explanation J Rock Vanes martirosyan - one of the most underrated and most well rounded boxers in the sport, a former Olympian holds amateur wins over tim bradley Berto and more, and had a pick em fight with Charlo which could have went either way Kell Brook - just announced he's moving to 154 he'll be a good addition most are familiar with him already and other fighters who we may see fight at 154 in the foreseeable future are Errol Spence who's a big welterweight, Austin Trout - who had a very close fight with canelo, and who beat cotto There's also good prospects like Erickson Lubin on the rise, I can't see any division that come's close to the talent level of 154 at the moment and there's more fighters on the rise also in that division There's also good boxers like John Jackson son of Julian jackson, who was ahead vs andy lee a middleweight champion, and very tall and decent boxers like willie nelson also who's 6 3
The 2 best fighters you list are not 154 fighters any longer. Charlo last fight was his last at 54 per himself and canelo just signed a 165 fight. still a good division but not great. Andrade should be fighting the other charlo and Lara should try fighting vanes to see if he can get a legit W
Canelo last fight was at 154lb and he's the current champion at 154, he'll be coming back down to the division because he sure as heck won't be going to 160 or 168 after the chavez fight, lara vanes wasn't a close fight maybe 8-4 lara you also said something about joe smith koing beterbiev etc,
Yea it definitely is. Aside from the established names, even contenders like Jackson, especially Jackson, have what it takes to upset an elite.
You really see canelo skipping out on the very easy title fight with bjs ? I think I remember calling Smith to ko beterbiev because beterbiev is truly a Ko just waiting to happen and Smith could land on him, Smith wouldn't just be steamrolled like most. Beterbiev has a very shaky chin and with leaving himself wide open is a recipe for that ko. Other than his chin the dude is scary crazy on offense but the way he fights a chin is a highly needed asset. time will tell, there's a reason I said Smith and not one of the title holders, tho superwoman can land on anyone for a few rounds so he's a live body
maybe lhw but not cruiserweight, now that ward is gone or retired im not sure either, you could make a very strong case for 154 being the best division, good post
Nah. There's potential there for things to heat up if the right fights get made, though. It boils down to if Charlo-Williams was a precursor of things to come or a one-off.
That goes for every division. Especially Cruiser weight.. When was the there was a unification fight at Cruiser ?
154 is the strongest division at 154. That's about it... Andrade? So strong he doesn't even fight! Lara? So strong he has to fight strength conditioning coaches instead of actual boxers . Vanes? Last I heard of him he was touting for work in porn his career has bottomed out that bad.
I think it's pretty decent but I wouldn't say the best at all, particularly if - like me - you assume Canelo isn't fighting there again so aren't counting him. There's two very good possibly elite fighters in the better Charlo and Andrade, but beyond that the division needs more contenders to fight each other. Lara I'm just not a fan of though I respect he is a very skilled fighter. I think he's taking an L next time he's against a good fighter
Super Flyweight is no.1 - Gonzalez, Inoue, Estrada (thus 3 of the P4P top 10), Cuadras, Casimero, Yafai, Sor Rungvisai, Acajas Light Heavy and Super Feather Ward, Kovalev, Stevenson, Beterbiev and a host of very decent contenders Loma, Corrales, Vargas, Davis, Salido, Walters, Miura, Sosa EDIT: Oh, and Gamboa Then Cruiser Usyk, Breidis, Gassiev, Glowacki, Lebedev etc.
