Who did Charlo sign to fight at 165?

    Lebedev-Ramirez 8 months ago.

There's fewer roadblocks in getting fights made at CW than 154 right now, but there is talent at 154. It's getting old seeing Trout and Vanes being the only guys making the rounds, though.

The depth in cruiser is impressive:
Usyk Gassiev Lebedev Glowacki Huck Briedis Bellew Makabu Cunningham Mchunu Shumenov Wlodarczyk Dorticos Kudryashov Vlasov Tabiti Hunter etc.

The 154 division is literally packed with high level talent, so much that they cannot help but face one another.
The Super welterweight division is unquestionably the deepest and most talent pack division in boxing, followed by the 147 welterweight division whose top talents will probably migrate to SWW making it even stronger.
Personally, I believe if Canelo choose to attempt to clean out the 154 division, there are much better fights for him (and a tougher road) then his moving to 160 to fight B level Golovkin.
Canelo Vs the Charlos, JRock Williams, Andrade or Hurd would all be awesome match ups!

disagree, makabu is horrific in my opinion technically maybe the worst I've ever seen, gassiev also didn't have basically any amateur background and was being outboxed vs lededev who's on his way out in that division, in my opinion 154 is by far the most stacked division and it only is closely rivaled by light heavy right now! light fly, is quite weak! I could see even yafai having the skills to beat alot of light fly weights and he's hardly p4p material himself! good post though! good debate

Doesn't seem like they need much help at all to not face each other.

Canelo's pretty much isolated himself off of the rest of the best 154 guys (he's in pure payday mode).

Lara couldn't/wouldn't fight the Charlos (although now that Jermell doesn't have Shields as his trainer anymore, we'll see).

Charlos obviously couldn't fight each other (can't knock brothers for not doing that).

Andrade bailed on fighting Jermell, didn't want to fight Lara, and hasn't fought any of the top guys (despite having potential, his management has been a nightmare).

Jarrett Hurd is a very talented prospect. Actually, I like his work a little more than I do Lubin. He just beat the brakes off JOJO Dan and he has stopped his last three opponents. He is a big 154 pounder and I don't see him staying there too long as well as Lubin. All that means is that the MW division is about to blow up and them young lions will be hungry and ready.

    Good fight.

Still, both are moving up to MW so this might be at a catchweight??

Lara just announced that he is open to unifying against the Charlos.
Andrade - Williams would be a great technical fight. Perhaps even better than Jermall - Williams, although I agree that Andrade has management issues and is far too inactive. It's a shame because he is very talented.

154 is the saviour and hope for revising the dead MW division.
Jermall Charlo, Canelo Alvarez, Hurd will all be forces at 160.

154 seems pretty decent but I'm not sure it's coincidence that it's laden with US or US based talent at the top end (as is 147) - I'm not saying that US fighters are worse than their foreign counterparts but I'm yet to be convinced that they're significantly better either - what they do have is greater exposure than most, which I think contributes to the perception that 154 is better than the surrounding divisions. I like the look of guys like the Charlos and Andrade, but tbh none of them have really proven much as yet - well, unless your yardstick for greatness is guys like Vanes or Austin Trout, that is.

It is possible to make an argument that 154 is a strong division - possibly even the strongest (though I wouldn't agree here) - but 'by far'? Not in my book.
