Craig did say in interview somewhere that freddie was considering dropping him down to 154lbs and if can make it why not? he has more chance there of getting and winning a title.
Does he really? Maybe in a few years, but right now the middleweight division is worse than light-middleweight.
Few years my arse! next year (2010) will be big changes in the middle weight division belts will change hands remember my posts now!
But barker hasnt beaten anyone in the top 50 in the world and has visited the canvas 3 times already........
But its clear to Stevie Wonder that by watching him fight then watching someone like Lee fight, Barker is a few levels above. Its also not hrough lack of trying he hasn't fought anyone in the top 50. Elcock got sick, Macklin has been avoiding him (in some aspects).
just wait until he defeats someone in the top 50 in the world before you say hes better than lee because lee has already passed that test twice when he beat willie gibbs and affif belghecham.
If paul samuels and conroy mintosh knocked him imagine what a top 10 boxer like lee would do to your beloved darren barker.......
If he's any good at all, he's VERY rough round the edges. I don't know what fight you were watching, but he seems to me to make a shitload of technical mistakes (i.e. too easy to hit, backing up in a straight line, "telegraphing" his punches with his body, wearing his guard needlessly low, laying on the ropes, bouncing around without lateral movement etc.). He seems to have a good chin, but he doesn't really sit down on his punches, which will pose a problem against bigger fighters who can literally walk through your shots and raise hell in return (e.g. the champ). To be fair, I've seen other fights of his on YouTube and where he seems to be a little bit more refined and shows much more discipline, and looks just a better-schooled all-round fighter. Maybe he should be fighting at 154 though. Basically, I'm with "Hozumi's Hook" insofar as I don't think he's quite on the level of other prospects floating around 160 right now like Barker and Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam.
Thanks for the info. Im going to watch the Parison fight tonight, is it a good fight watch for a neutral?
BTW I should have pointed out that the excellent Vanes had sparred a good few hard rounds before Craig got in the ring with him. Vanes and Craig have developed side by side over the last few years at the Wildcard and are great friends. Vanes is so friendly, modest and mild mannered outside the ring that it comes as a bit of a surprise when you see him mercilessly pummeling some poor opponent inside it! Martirosyan v McEwan for a world title one day? Its got to happen!!!
The word from a few months ago over on the Brit forum - from an insider I'll mention so it was probably pretty reliable as a source - was that McEwan was going to be thrown into the Lion's Den against Vernon Forrest before The Viper's unfortunate passing. Talk about stepping up.
