I asked a friend of mine if he could help me get into boxing and he said sure but, he won't take me seriously until I could run 3miles in 18 min. Is this reasonable or is he ****ing with me? I know I'll eventually have to be able to do this but, I have a feeling hes asking too much right off the bat to keep me away. I'm a lightweight btw.

If your a lightweight you should get down to 18mins in a few weeks of daily runs, stamina is pretty important in boxing as is dedication. Whats your best 3miles right now?

A six minute mile should be no great mountain to climb for any young & healthy person.

So yeah...three of those. Reasonable enough.

3 miles in 18 minutes is a pretty decent time to be running.

You can, it's just a hard pace to keep..I think people are expecting too much from a beginner..The boxing comes first and foremost, don't want to end up a runner rather than a boxer..Running 2-3 times a week for 2 miles in 12 minutes is ample for amateur in my opinion

Well it's not easy but not impossible. In my good days I was running 2.5 miles for 16 minutes. I think there is a special forum for boxing training where you should put threads like this.

Well you should know that you are suffering from the frist to the last minute when you run on that pace.

Exactly. Im a very good runner, and 3 miles being just under 5 km, and I do 5km in between 16 and 17mins.
3 miles in 18 mins may not be outstanding for a regular runner, but for a beginner its a very tough ask.
My friends in the navy and has to do 1.5 miles in 10 or something mins for their fitness test.
