Keep it simple if your just starting aim for 9 minute miles. rotate your distance between 2.5 miles and 6 miles and try to run at least 3 days a week. 3 miles in 18 minutes is a MASSIVE task i run nearly every day and thats a big ask!!!

In highschool I used to run a mile around 5-5:30 mins so im assuming 3 miles for 18mins is reasonable.

He is ****ing with you, a healthy track runner will average 8 to 7 min mile world class would fair better.. what he is asking you to do is run a 6 min mile which is insane unless you can run 10 miles an hour or better for 18 min with out passing out.

    a running story for you.

“At one point, they ran 12 800-meter [roughly a half mile] sprints, each under 3 minutes, with a minute rest between each one,” Roach said. “I timed every one and every one was under 3 minutes. I never saw a heavyweight do anything even close to that. They work their asses off. To be able to do that, two 250-pound guys … whew.

“They’re two of the best athletes I’ve ever trained.”

They also know how to box.

The brothers cut their teeth in the old Eastern European amateur boxing machine. Wladimir reportedly had 140 amateur fights (losing only six) and won the super heavyweight gold medal at the 1996 Olympics. Vitali had 210 fights (with 15 losses) and was a kickboxing world champion.

Wladimir also has 55 pro fights, Vitali 38. Add it all up and you get 443 fights. That’s plenty of time to learn the fundamentals and gain a firm grasp of strategy.

LMAO at anyone who says 'you shold be able to do it in a few weeks'

Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A: The list of finishing times in a local weekly run.

Not a single runner under 18 minutes today. Note the running club affiliations, personal bests and number of runs completed. Usually the winning time is about 16.30. That's seriously fast.

Anyone who thinks an 18 minute 3 mile is trivial should tie themselves to a car with a length of rope and have the driver drive at the pace required. You're talking out of your arses.

Thank goodness somebody said this. That is a very, very fast time. Your friend has to be messing with you or has no idea.

You want to be fit, but that's ridiculous as a requirement for boxing. There are people who can run that distance in that time but won't last 3 rounds sparring... Running gets you in shape, but not boxing shape. You need to box to be able to survive in there. Just like you aren't going to get better at swimming unless you actually swim!

I'm no great athlete and can accept I won't be able to do that, but I've knocked the dicks off people in the gym without being able to run like that. And I'm no good!

3 miles in 18mins is a quick time for a boxer. Ive always been told 6 minute miles before but I can not do them for anymore than 2 miles. You should be running but you need to be boxing if you want to be good at boxing

It's a quick time for anyone. Full stop. It's just not up for debate.

My friend was actually a professor of mine, I failed his class out of arrogance and laziness and he knew this so he probably doesn't think I have the dedication even though I could develop the skill (i'm not bad for a beginner). He might be ****ing with me because of that :yep but, i doubt it. He's a cool cat with connections. He helped another student and he got a bronze medal in Judo in the Olympics so I know he could hook me up.

I'm 22 and a little dude so I think I'm capable of it but, its gonna test me.

This thread shows who are the posers and who the real boxers are. Posers obviously never ran a mile in their life and r very quick to say "that's easy".

2miles in 12mins is hard, but doable.

3miles in 18mins is really tough, unless you're gifted as a runner. For a beginner it is an absurd target.

Test you? Unless you're a runner (and you'll find out pretty quickly if you are) you won't get there.

I've got a friend, ex-forces, currently training for the Nice Iron Man. Seriously, seriously fit guy. He's busting his arse trying to break the 20 minute barrier for 5 km.

  15. Cracking 20 minutes is a pretty good achievement for people who run, 18 mins is a beast of a time that sounds like a high goal for someone who doesn't train at all. Maybe someone of high school age with natural tempo could get that.
