When you're an 8/9 time champion in 5 divisions, then yes it does mean something.

Cue the dipshits bringing up julio cesar chavez jr.

That has nothing at all to do with him being undefeated though. Say he had an early loss on his record like Hopkins, he still would've been able to achieve this anyway, and no one would think any less of him compared to what they do now.

Not at all! While I do believe that someone out there can beat Floyd, he is still still an elite, top boxer, who has been a big draw (even well before the talk of 'Pacquiao vs Mayweather'). If he does ever lose, it won't be in big fashion, and he will always be competetive... even after a loss. Floyd is no Jermaine Taylor.

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr was 89-0 when he lost to Frankie Randall. That sounds incredible. Does anyone know what the standard of opposition was for the time? Was he fighting the best or were they easy wins?

It means a little, but is highly overrated. when you look at who mayweather fought when he fought them, then it comes into context. the only person who had to really fight floyd at floyd's weight was marquez. everyone else he fought at their weight and close to their prime. you also take into account that he rematched an opponent many believed had beaten him and given him his toughest fight. That said, his 0 is the most legitimate of the last 20 years, and one of the most legitimate ever.

    IT MEANS NOTHING

    same goes for Pacquiao
    both of them mean nothing
    unless they fight each other

It's like going through all the qualifiers in footballs and the semi finals but then not having the final match.

    stupid.

Are you really trying to compare the quality of opposition between the two? Say what you want about Floyd but his resume looks other worldly compared to JCC jr.

Nothing wrong with a man being proud of his success, which is basically what these 42-0 proclamations amount to.

Floyd's quality wins- Marquez, Hatton, De la Hoya, Judah, Gatti, Hernandez, Castillo, Corrales, and plenty of wins against really good fighters

Not really, its just an allure to it. Kind of like holding a coin in front of someone and daring them to snatch it. People want to see that person get it taken from them so they tend to root for other people they feel is good enough to do it

First Oscar, Then Hatton and Then Pacquiao since 2009.
