LOL at the posters who think PW has a significant fanbase. Williams is like Dawson, a talented fighter with no charisma and can not draw flys to ****.
The argument isn't who has a significant fanbase or not. You'd have to be crazy to say Williams has more fans than Pavlik. My point is that Pavlik isn't some mega draw. He draws a niche fanbase from Ohio and not much else. He couldn't crack 200K with Hopkins and he couldn't crack 250K with Jermain Taylor. The only way the split could be significantly in favor for Pavlik is if it's in Ohio....then they can pretty much do whatever they want with Williams.
Surely Pavlik is more well known across the country? Two big fights with JT and one with BHOP. Who has Williams fought that is well known?
You'd figure but the numbers don't suggest that. More well known that Williams? Of course. A big name? I don't know if I'd agree. Margarito for one. That fight did well on HBO. Ultimately the question relies on the two extremes. It'd be foolish of me to not mention that Pavlik-Taylor I was the highest rated HBO WCB fight for that year (and just barely missed beating the top fight the year before) but then to go from that to barely having a million people tune in for your next televised HBO fight? Odd.
The debate on ESB is over the purse split. In the real world the problem is Goosen's demand for a 50-50 co-promotion. So simple a 3rd grader could understand it, and yet, to complex for ESB.
We're discussing what would be a proper purse split. We're not discussing the reality of the situation. Is this any different than discussing a purse split for any other fight? Or is the fact that we're discussing Kelly Pavlik make it have to be as realistic as humanly possible? Relax. It's a discussion.
But the discussion has no quantifiable relationship with reality. Pavlik will never have the opportunity to accept any purse split purse. Goosen demanded a 50-50 co-promotion. Goosen did not say "Hey Bob, can we talk about some better terms, or some sort of co-promotional rights?" He said, "The only way this fight gets done is if it is a 50-50 co-promotion." That took both fighters' ability to say yes or no to anything completely out of the equation.
It's not being discussed for reality purposes (at least not from my end), it's just a discussion. No different than "hey who would you rather nail on a one night stand, Jessica Alba or Jessica Simpson?" I can't speak for everyone else here...but a purse bid discussion is just a baseless conversation. No more no less. All for the fun of talking basically.
it shouldnt be 50 50 being that williams is a challenger and technically although williams would be pavliks biggest fight he could go else where... 168 in particular... but anything less than 55-45 is bull****... and thats 55-45 for everything
Nah the best I could see is 60-40 unless Pav just demands this fight. Doesn't matter who you like or whose fault it is the first fight didn't happen. Whoever is in demand by the public is the man getting the bigger chunk. Unless you want to call the commissions and tell them that they should enforce purse splits then it's a bigger draw wins situation.
NO. and thats a Hell NO. being the champs And Lineal at that means you've earned the right to get the bigger purse. only in some cases should the champ get less . for example, DLh,Tyson,SRL type of fighters due to there Star power should get the bigger if 50/50 splits. PDUB is not that type of star. 70-30 sounds Good. if he wants the Title he needs to accept the challengers Role.
Pretty Much Boo. PW is a good fighter and gots Talent But in no way does he Get the Dlh Treatement. 50-50 is a joke. KP is the Champ. PW is the Challenger. some o these poster are being blinded by their Fanaticism:-(
